The Miami Open is a fantastic 1000 tennis tournament that takes place in March, just after Indian Wells, CA. All the best players in the world are participating. It is beautifully organized by the former ATP single world no. 4, James Blake. The nearby parking lot gives easy access to the stadium. Sometimes, I am nostalgic about the former Key Biscayne “Crandon Park“ location and its charm. But its parking lot was so far away, you had to take a bus to go to the stadium, it was just a nightmare! The Hard Rock Stadium is a 65,000 capacity football stadium and it is not really adapted to be a tennis stadium. A massive temporary, three-sided stand is erected on the field to bring a total of 14,000 spectators closer to the action. But it lacks atmosphere even with the local Latino fans! I like much more the new Grandstand court where the spectators are closer to the action. There are lots of seating around all the other 11 tournament courts. And there is a great variety of good quality food vendors and enough seats to eat, relax or watch tennis on the huge screen! I have been going to the Miami Open every year, since 2000, when we moved down to South Florida. I hope I can continue to attend the Miami Open...
Read moreThe stadium is a nice smaller sized stadium. It was very crowded evening there. Lots of traffic, etc. First was the parking and we paid a lot of money to park to be closer to the stadium with less walking. Well to our surprised we had to walk walk walk to get into the stadium. There were no golf carts or any other transportation needs for any, disabled or not. They never even bothered to look at our tickets so could we have parked free???? Maybe. Lots of funny sticks being smoked, yet there were police there and even a dog or two. Could even smell it inside the stadium yet I can't bring some innocent food into the place for a special diet(according to the rules/my wasn't special enough). But you can bring drugs!!!!!!!!!! I would have bought more to go with my special diet if nothing but a drink but I didn't we didn't spend a dime inside of the stadium. The crowd was well behaved and it was a good experience except for the things...
Read moreOne of the worst venues in Miami for a disabled person. First of if your in a wheelchair they will not guide you through the right entrances. Elevators are hidden no one knows anything including STAFF. No purses are allowed as a person in a wheelchair it's very hard to leave your items in a locker which they charge $17 for to then pick it up through a large crowd. This is unacceptable and the venue has to make several accommodations in order to successfully be ADA compatible. Secondly I asked for a cup for my beverage and I was denied it. I cant drink off a can or a bottle and it's not covinient to be denied a simple cup. Third, Restrooms handicap ♿️ stall aren't big enough for my chair or a companion to help. The main avenue 199 is completely closed making it difficult for someone to be pick up a in a wheelchair. They will make you go a several blocks down to be picked...
