You should fire all your front desk people. Shame that I have to go to a library farther away because of your staff. I'm a frequent library visitor 1-3/week and I love MDPLS but Ive never been as mistreated as I have in this branch. For example, in one occasion they let another woman have a loud conversation on the phone but afterwards asked me to shut up when I was quietly helping a friend fill out a job application at the computers. Today when I checked out a book they didn't even bother to look up at me, and instead kept talking to one another. I say "hello, how are you?" no response. "I'd like to check this out." They yank it from my hands, scan the book and card, throw it back at me without even looking at me. I say "Thank you, have a great day." I get no response, again talking among one another. Another time I put my toddler (1 year old) down to pick up a book I dropped, and they immediately yell "no running" at him. WHAT am I or the one year old baby supposed to do? Can you let him walk for 15 seconds while I reach down? Librarians are supposed to be resources to the community. Why are they less educated than supermarket clerks here? Wow. Read moreThe Miami Lakes Branch Library serves as the place for most residents to vote during elections. During the rest of the year, the library offers excellent services to residents and visitors. We have a library card and we marvel at the ability to request great books, DVDs, games. Now that everything is automated, we make the requests on-line and are notified when the item reaches the library. We pick-up and can renew the items online, making it rather easy, unless the item has been requested by another customer and then we must return. There are many activities held at the library, from book readings for children, to special events such as learning about Taiko Drums, something we attended and made it to the front page of our local newspaper, The Miami Laker. If you do not have a library card yet, get one. If you do, make use of one of the great services available to us. Finally, there are computers at the library for those who are not connected!...
Read moreFantastic Library for kids and the staff here is great. They have a few staff members that will ask people to be quite while in the library and to silence their cell phones. Which is actually really nice to see! The staff are kind and polite also. It is fantastic to come to a place where the notion of being respectful of other people in the library is valued! If you are being loud, the staff politely asks you to be quite, speak softly, or to silence your cell phone. I saw that there were some library patrons were annoyed by this but a library is meant to be a quite place for people to read and reflect. Which makes this a great place to come to read...
