St Stanislaus Convent Resale Shop — Attraction in Michigan City

Good Morning, Sadly today my (2) senior companions experienced a blatant case of racism at this religious resale facility. One of the ladies asked to use the water closet, she was told that there was no public restroom and would have to go to the nearest gas station which we did. Upon our return I was shopping in the basement and notice another customer (Young female) W/O melanin ask to use the water closet, she was escorted to the restroom. I was shocked, after the third person to ask to use the restroom was told where the bathroom was with a smile we left. Here it is 2024 we are at a so called "Christian" establishment and we are still being treated differently due to the color of our skin. ONLY IN AMERICA!!! SHAME ON YOU...

Store is run by senior citizen volunteers who give their time in support of the church and school to which all profits are given. Hours of Friday and Saturday from 9:30 to 3:30 reflect that these dedicated people are solely volunteers. Please note that there is no elevator in the over 100 year convent to navigate the four floors of items. Restroom is available in the chapel upon request. Also note that due to the age of the building, upper floors temperature will vary each season. If you are susceptible to heat or cold plan your visit accordingly. Many items throughout the space as well as everything in the basement is 50% off. Credit cards are accepted with three percent fee. Lovely place to spend a few...

Thank you Google Maps for helping me find this gem in my resale treasure hunt along the shores of Lake Michigan. The community of St. Stanislaus has cleverly repurposed the 1938 convent that was home to the School Sisters of Notre Dame who educated the young children of the Polish Catholic community in Michigan City. The abundant donations are carefully sorted and nicely displayed in the many rooms of this architectural gem that retains its integrity due to the efforts of this dedicated faith community.
