9/24/24 UPDATE: Its been two weeks and no reply from the social@planetfitness.com email I reached out to after the copy and paste reply I received below.
》In light of the break-in that happened yesterday afternoon (9/2/24) in the men's locker room, and the utter apathy on the part of Maddie the manager and the rest of the staff throughout the entire experience, I will be canceling my PF membership. I'm completely blown away by the fact that a random guy was able to walk into this gym with a bolt cutter hidden under his clothing, purchase a day pass and head to the locker room at 4pm to start cutting off locks and stealing people's stuff, have a fistfight with a gym member before getting in his getting away car and escaping and NOBODY is acting like it's something to be even mildly concerned about. 😱 I thankfully didn't have any valuables in the locker so nothing was stolen but my lock is destroyed and there was zero response on the part of the management or staff to even offer a replacement lock for my visit, much less some kind of reaction more than just a "sorry, it happens" and move on. I fully understand that this is supposedly the busiest Planet Fitness in Washington state, but you can't expect an incident like this to happen and there not be something more than just a casual dismissal and no effort to provide some kind of restitution or even acknowledgment that this is a super sketchy thing to have happen. I have been coming here for only about a month now and was willing to let some of the consistently sub-standard issues like no soap and dirty floors go after notifying the staff, but this is truly the last straw.
In lieu of the boilerplate and extremely unhelpful reply from PF that this review will most likely initiate, I'm only writing all this as an FYI to folks who are looking at coming here. I am fully willing to update my review if or when there is some kind of actual effort made on the part of the manager Maddie or corporate to make this right. Read moreMy boyfriend and I each got a membership last month online and have had to work quite a bit more lately than we anticipated so we haven't had any time to work out. Due to not having the time and some big bills coming up we decided to just cancel our membership and apply again at a later time. We went into the facility today to cancel our memberships which again was our first time ever even setting foot into the place. We wanted to make sure and cancel before the start of the month tomorrow to hopefully not have to pay the $40 annual fee each. We were told that we would still be getting charged the $40 each which has now put us in a bind. We were told that we needed to cancel our memberships by the 25th of this month in order to not get charged the annual fee since the payments already start going through to billing. Totally understand that but we feel it would be fair to be refunded the $80 since we will now have paid $100 for never using the facility. We asked the front desk about that and the only response we kept getting was "Sorry, you needed the cancel by the 25th". Again, we understand that but since we signed up online, we never saw anything about having to cancel before the 25th and weren't emailed or told by anyone that the 25th was the cut off so we had no idea. We again just think it would be fair to be refunded that $80. We tried to use the "contact us" option on the website to discuss this issue and even put "refund inquiry" as the topic and our response back was that they can't help us with billing and we needed to contact the manager which I can find no information on the manager either. This seemed like a really cool place to work out and seeing the facility for the first time today was exciting but after these billing loop holes and other horror stories I have been reading we definitely won't be signing up again. This place unfortunately seems to be like every other gym as far as billing/memberships go. This is my last chance to get some type of response from you guys since the front desk was really unhelpful and your "contact us" option...
Read moreThis is one of two bad reviews I've ever written. I moved out of state about a year ago and tried to cancel my membership but I couldn’t. They said I needed to cancel my membership at my home gym where I started it. They said I needed to go in person, or since I was 1,500 miles away in ND, to write a letter to my home gym requesting to cancel. I wrote the cancellation letter in April 2021, but I still have been getting charged for the last year. I went back to my local Planet Fitness and called my home gym and was told to write another letter. I wrote another cancellation letter in May 2021. I triple checked the address on it to make sure it was perfect. I forgot about it and in February 2022 I'm still getting charged. You can upgrade from any gym in the nation, but you can only downgrade from your home gym. I can tell most of the employees I talked to think the rule isn’t right, and feel terrible that they have to tell people it all the time.
UPDATE: I tried something different and wrote an email to my home gym in February 2022. This time they said they will be willing to transfer my home gym membership to the gym closest to me. I was traveling, and I was about to go to WA for a visit. I wasn't going back home to ND before I went to WA, so I had them transfer it to the closest one in Bothell, WA where I was going to be staying. In hindsight, it was a terrible idea but I wanted to get it done. I went to my new home gym in Bothell and cancelled my membership in person. It's now June 26th, 2022 and I've now been getting charged for a year...
