With so many little sushi places in my immediate area, it's an unofficial mission of mine to patronize alllll of them, at least once if not more. So today, I visited a cute little Sushi Spott (see what I did there? 🙂 ) at the Murphy's Corner location in Mill Creek. I've seen this place for years and finally had the occasion to drop by.
I was greeted by Mercedes, my very kind and friendly server. For a place that's rather nondescript on the outside, it had a cute ambiance on the inside, roomy, lots of tables, cool colors and neon signs, two tvs, and Caribbean-type music playing in the background, I like it.
They have an exhaustive and colorful menu, wow - most of which isn't applicable to me, which is fair given this is a sushi place. The options they did have, were tasty .. hard to go wrong when it comes to sushi.
They were out of the "Ocean Salad" (seaweed salad) so I had big sads for that but got over it quickly enough 🙂 The Veggie Tempura was delicious (as per information they provided, their tempura is made with just flour and water, no eggs or dairy), good form. There didn't seem to be as much veggies as I'm used to when ordering the same at other establishments but the dish was only $5.95 so I would say the amount was absolutely commensurate with the cost. The Cucumber and Avocado Rolls, respectively, were equally on point!
A huge pleasant surprise for me was finding a specific vegan menu option, vegan Karaage. I found the dish reminiscent of a really good vegan chicken nuggets. Upon research, I was able to determine that Karaage is a Japanese cooking method most often applied to fried chicken, so that makes sense.
Overall, I really liked this place. Their options are very affordable! There's a lot of sushi places yet to explore but if I find myself in the area, I'll absolutely stop by for a quick sushi fix ... being sure to order the vegan Karaage again, hopefully get me some Ocean Salad 🙂, and just take in the ambiance while taking a brief load off my feet for a...
Read moreI just returned from one of the worst dining experiences I’ve had in awhile and felt obligated to share because of just how many people review this place positively.
When I walked in I saw 3 people working behind the counter and what appeared to be a couple servers. There were maybe 3 other tables seated when we arrived.
My order was taken pretty quickly. I asked for an appetizer, a couple rolls, and my family ordered their food. Something my husband ordered wasn’t available so he adapted. No big deal.
One of my rolls came up pretty quickly as did my families. Oh good! Good start. Wondered where my appetizer was so I asked and was told it would be coming out shortly. Thought it was odd to receive it after my entree but was still waiting on more food so dismissed it and decided to be patient.
My appetizer came out and there was a hair in it which was off putting but I was trying to not be a person who complained so I chose not to address it. Hindsight has me wishing I did.
We sat and waited for 5-10 more minutes and the server (she was delightful btw) asked if we wanted to add anything and we chose dessert. They didn’t have the desserts we chose but we found something that would work and all was fine. However, we asked about our baked roll we were still waiting on and it seemed to have been forgotten about. The server went to check on it and reported that it had been burned and would need remade. Now, we had waited for awhile for our burned roll and didn’t feel like continuing to wait so I opted to just take it off my order and just accept the loss. The server took it off the check and all was fine.
I felt as if we had to keep tabs on our order the entire time we were there, it was my sons birthday so it was disappointing. For three people working on food and very few patrons it seemed unacceptable. Other sushi places with trained sushi chefs do a better job solo than this place did with three people. I won’t...
Read moreThe only good thing about this place is that they’re close to our apartment. The sushi itself is fine; it’s average sushi at an average price. The service is consistently the worst service I’ve ever had. We went in to eat a few times, and consistently received bad service (taking forever to order and receive food, rude wait staff, dirty tables, etc.). The final straw for our dine-in service was when the restaurant smelled so bad of sewage that we lost our appetite (this was back in 2019). After some time we decided to just order the sushi to-go since it’s affordable and so close. We did it a few times and each time their order was extremely late. One time we arrived 10 minutes AFTER the time we were told our order would be ready and still had to wait 30 minutes. The wait staff was extremely oblivious and rude during this experience and didn’t apologize for being late. After many attempts and continuously terrible, disrespectful service, we started ordering sushi from other places because of the awful service for average sushi. Tonight we gave in and ordered from here on DoorDash (we really wanted sushi and they were one of the only places open at that time). Our poor dasher waited for almost an hour at Sushi Spot (we watched on the map), and caused our order to arrive an hour late (it took over 2 hours total from order time to delivery). To top it off, the order was incorrect. Save yourself the aggravation and find yourself a better sushi place, even if it means driving a bit further. Sushi Spot should be ashamed of the horrid service they provide (and have provided since we first tried them in 2019). We have officially had our last sushi roll from...
