The Best Birthing Experience Ever – Due Date 6/18, Baby Has Arrived!

My experience at St. Mark’s Hospital was a mix of positives and areas for improvement. While the CNAs and nurses were generally friendly, some lacked knowledge about my specific health needs and were occasionally insensitive to my unique requirements. More thorough communication and training would go a long way in improving patient care. On the positive side, the medical team played a crucial role in my recovery, carefully triple-checking procedures to identify the root causes of my symptoms. However, there was a noticeable disconnect between different members of the team, often leaving me responsible for advocating for my own routine and consistent care. One of the biggest frustrations was the inconsistency in policies, particularly regarding ā€œsips and chipsā€ between staff shifts. A simple conversation with the primary doctor could have resolved the confusion, yet it repeatedly became an issue. A huge shoutout to the ER triage department, which caught my medical issue rather than dismissing my symptoms and sending me home, as IHC did. I ended up back at St. Mark’s ER two days later with severely worsening symptoms. After further testing, the medical team was baffled by IHC’s initial decision. I am grateful to St. Mark’s ER team for their diligence and thorough care. Overall, I appreciate the effort of the medical team, but better communication and continuity of care between staff members would greatly enhance the patient experience.

St Marks is a wonderful hospital. I recently had surgery there and the staff was very professional yet empathetic to your needs. The surgical staff the Dr McKinney assembled and the office staff at Rocky Mountain Associated Physicians are just awesome. The nurses on the second floor where I was housed were just wonderful to myself and my wife. I would like to thank each of them. Lisa doc assistant Beth cna Sheila nurse Alissa nurse Camilla nurse Cathrine cna Jennifer housekeeping Sallie housekeeping supervisor Joan nurse super Mary Harpist Siren dietitian Larry nurse Cassie cna Ellie cna Anna nurse Mary the Harpist was awesome she came and played each day as a therapeutic playing helping the patients to relax and man did I relax. The phlebotomist that came and took my blood each morning was pleasant and very good at his job. If you have to choose a hospital in area to go to this is a good start on your search. There is a lot of construction going on but don’t let that deter you. They also have valet parking that free. I was blessed that surgery went well but even more blessed to have wonderful professionals taking care of you. Thank you St Marks and staff.

I have never seen my grandma treated more poorly than I did when my grandma was in this hospital (for less than 24 hours).

My grandma was transferred to this hospital from another hospital for (what was supposed to be) a quick scope to view her swollen throat.

To start off, she was told that this scope would happen first thing in the morning. But the morning came and left with no information as to why it hadn’t happened. My grandma then went into a full blown panic attack and was inconsolable because at this point she hadn’t been home in 3 days. When we asked the nurse why we weren’t being told anything she would say ā€œIt’s not up to us. Our doctor is busy.ā€.

As we waited for the doctor, my grandma tried to sleep but her restless leg syndrome was acting up and my grandma and I asked SEVERAL times for medication to help with it. She arrived at the hospital 11:30pm on Sunday but did not get the medication for her legs until 3pm on Monday.

She also was not fed or given water the entire day because she was not supposed to drink or eat anything before this ā€œprocedureā€. First of all, you can indeed have water. Secondly, this wasn’t even a procedure. As I said before, it was a quick bedside scope of her throat that takes less than 5 minutes. So they starved her ALL day for no reason. The throat specialist even came in and said ā€œWhy is there a sign saying she can’t eat? She’s not going under for any type of procedure.ā€

Her nurses were not knowledgeable what so ever. Between not knowing anything about this scope she was having done to not knowing she could still have water is insane to me. Aren’t nurses supposed to know what the patient is having done? And what the next steps are?

Her nurse, Hannah, finally came in and told us that this ā€œprocedureā€ would happen around 4-5. When 5 came and went, she came in and had no information about when the procedure was going to take place. She kept saying things like ā€œIt’s not my fault. It’s whenever the doctor is able to come up.ā€ Or she would be manipulative by using my grandmas medical background by saying ā€œyou know how it is. Sometimes we get something planned and it doesn’t work out.ā€. She had NO empathy what so ever for my grandma and her care.

Lots of little things happened throughout the day too like the room service coming in and mopping the room floor as there are several signs saying my grandma is a high fall risk. Maybe let’s not mop the floor when my grandma could possibly fall?? And me telling the nurse desk that my grandma wasn’t acting right then being turned away because it was just lack of sleep she had gotten. The nurses didn’t even get out of their chairs to look at her. Her nurse, Hannah, refused to give her her medication because it COULD have a side effect of a cough but my grandma had never had a cough with this medication in the past. After arguing with her for several minutes, the doctor finally told the nurse to give my grandma her meds. After my grandma had been crying all day because she wanted to go home, her nurse had the audacity to ask my grandma if she wanted to stay there for one more night or go home…. Clearly she was not present during my grandmas meltdowns or else she would know that my grandma wanted to be anywhere EXCEPT that hospital.

No empathy. No accountability. No knowledge.

This hospital is awful. Do...

After taking our daughter, an addict, emaciated with several infections and has recently used drugs, to the emergency room, we were informed was extremely critical and not expected to survive, she was out of her mind and angry that she was being admitted. Of course she was angry that we had taken her in to try and save her life and in a feverish, ill, drug addled state blocked her parents from seeing her or getting information. The staff in the er were rude and insensitive, but alas, they must respect her wishes, even though she was so sick and high she had no idea what was happening, she was put into a drug induced coma, intubated and treated in the ICU. Five days later she was roused and wanted her parents, still the staff was rude and curt with us, she was very ill add we wanted to spend time with her. They moved her to the surgical area, still critically ill, and she was now detoxing and very unpleasant, we tried to contact a social worker to aid in her recovery and to help us make decisions, at about 10 days they finally contacted her mother and basically stated she had been blocked by our daughter and he was not able to divulge info and treated her with utter contempt. Yes, patients have rights but someone that is out of their mind and is a very sick addict isn’t mentally capable of making said decisions, rude staff and very poor medical care in this instance, pushing a critically ill, obvious mentally unstable patient from area to area, never making any decisions that will aid in her recovery, facility is dirty and odorous, people here don’t seem to like their jobs, and are impossible to interact with, we’ll see how this ends, we just wanted to save her life, but picked the wrong facility. If you want professionalism and people that truly care, go elsewhere. Edit, today, my daughter, with no resolved issues, that is supposedly competent to make her own decisions, checked herself out, still with pic lines, completely dependent on oxygen, they hurried her out of the hospital to the bus stop, oxygen dangerously low, still full of infection, her boyfriend was there, begging security not to take her out but he continued to wheel a critically ill woman into the cold to the bus stop, the nurse told us she’d die because she was leaving, we were out of the state and were completely helpless, she is obviously mentally ill, extremely sick and NOT capable of her own care, this will not go without a review by the officials, she lasted five minutes in the cold before having to be carried back to the er where she was again admitted, the staff can ask for a psychiatric evaluation, which we asked be done on day 6, and it was never entertained by anyone. I have to wonder how many have been treated in such a manner, how many have died due to a callous staff and suspect practices, I feel I have to call out the egregious hypocrisy, you’d think this couldn’t be happening this day and age, but alas,...

Zero Stars for St. Mark's ER and Staff

I would absolutely give zero or negative stars if I could for this review.

I had a DREADFUL experience at St. Mark's, especially in the ER. Except for the first two minutes (literally), the doctor ignored me and never spoke to me again and without any exaggeration at all, the entire nursing staff acted like a bunch of goof-offs with zero regard for my care or welfare.

The doctor absolutely failed to consult with me about my condition and substituted his judgment and desires for mine. He grossly abused his authority and denied me the choices I was entitled to make about the care I needed. He should have been censured or suspended at the very least. The entire staff just couldn't be bothered to provide me the care I should have had. And this at a time when the ER was quiet with virtually no demands on their time. Extremely unprofessional and dismissive.

I will NEVER go to St. Mark's again as an emergency patient since all members of the staff present while I was there thoroughly demonstrated their complete lack of interest in my care and showed a total disregard and zero respect for me as a person and a patient.

I understand, of course, that there's a priority system for the patients who most urgently need care, but there were no other patients!⁰ How do I know this? The entire nursing staff gathered outside of my room and had a long and very loud socializing session that went on for quite awhile. They were so loud and discourteous that I had to ask my family to request the nurses to take their "party" somewhere else.

I pity anyone else who goes to that ER expecting conscientious care from doctors or nursing staff. It was non-existent for me. It ranks as one of THE WORST hospital experiences I've ever had, and I've had quite a few.

This hospital should NOT be trusted with your ER care. Save yourself the serious aggravation, neglect, and the health reversal I suffered that took three truly miserable months to correct. This NEVER needed to happen!!!

Choose another hospital ER where you will hopefully receive the care you need and the respect that every patient deserves and is entitled to receive.

Finally, always be mindful of the fact that you can get great care/service in one part of a hospital but have other departments completely fail. I will never again look upon St. Mark's as a whole to be a good place to get ANY...
