This place overall gave me kind of weird vibes.
My skin history is: All my life Iâve had generally calm and not acne-prone skin. I went on birth control 5 months ago and after about a month developed moderate hormonal acne. Because of this, my mom scheduled an appointment for me at Skintherapy (recommended by her friend). However, once the appointment came up, my skin had calmed down significantly and now had very mild acne/was mostly dark spots.
OFF-PUTTING THINGS ABOUT APPOINTMENT:
1.) All of the products they recommended are their own, that you must purchase to begin the program !!! Low-key this seems a lot like a cash grab. The truth is there ARE effective products outside of their own, but they really emphasized how their products are the only ones that would work. It kind of seemed like a sales pitch đ©
2.) đ©đ©đ© In their FAQ they recommend to NOT visit dermatologist. I guess I just didnât know what I was walking into but recommending against MDâs doesnât sit right with me. It seemed they were fear-mongering about dermatologist treatments and Accutane, both of which are proven be extremely effective.
3.) One of the first questions I was asked about was why I was on birth control. In my opinion thatâs a very personal question to ask a teenager, it caught me off guard. They recommended the copper IUD which is known to have extreme side effects. đ©
4.) The program consists of an $85 appointment of extractions and a chemical peel every 2-3 weeks. Thatâs quite often and quite expensive!!! To me that seems unnecessary and possibly irritating. Then again, my skin is not extremely congested so IDK.
5.) There was def some rhetoric used as the technician was explaining the products. She would refer to them as âyour moisturizerâ and âyour creamsâ, as if they were already mine (We hadnât purchased them yet) Again it felt like a sales pitch, not a consultation
6.) some of the things they said seemed unscientific. For example, a spot treatment they applied would apparently âpull out the pigmentâ. (quite sure that is not how melanocytes work) overall there was just some things that sounded like they SOUNDED good but didnât have much actual merit. Though, I am not a dermatologist or skin expert at all so itâs possible I just didnât understand the things they said. Then again, theyâre not dermatologists either đ
7.) In their lifestyle informational section of the appointment, they recommended to avoid a LOT of things, and then suggested you look on their amazon storefront for alternatives. It kind of seemed like the ulterior motive was to get commission from their storefront đ
GOOD THINGS ABOUT APPOINTMENT
1.) The environment was clean and nice, and the place was cute
2.) The technician was very nice and overall everyone was super polite
3.) The skincare were made of effective ingredients
CONCLUSION
Skintherapyâs treatment probably DOES work, and well. They gave effective lifestyle advice and the skincare consisted of effective ingredients. If you followed their program, it would probably clear up your skin. HOWEVER, I take issue with their business model- it seemed a lot like a cash grab. Skintherapy is absolutely NOT the only way to clear your skin, and I believe itâs a red flag for them to suggest...
Read moreJil is the best!! If you are looking for acne treatment that actually works, you need to go to Jil. I will start off by saying that I've nearly tried everything out there in the quest for clear skin (both prescription and OTC). I've suffered from hormonal acne since I was probably about 13 or 14. I've been to so many other physicians, dermatologists, aestheticians and have not had the success I have had with Jil's products and program. After being discouraged with all options I was given by those other doctors and aestheticians, I decided to try accutane. I've actually gone through a total of two rounds of accutane. The first round kept my skin clear for about 5 years, until I decided to stop taking hormonal birth control, which was also helping keep my skin clear, and the acne came back with a vengeance. I went back to my dermatologist and they gave me the same treatment options I'd been given my entire life in dealing with acne; special creams, antibiotics or accutane. Since the creams and pills have never worked for me, I reluctantly decided on another round of accutane. If you've never been on accutane, it's a very harsh drug and is not fun to be on. It dries out your skin, lips, mouth, eyes, makes your skin very sensitive to the sun, can cause major birth defects if you were to get pregnant, and you generally need to be on this medication for 4-6 months. While the second round did help with the majority of the acne, my skin still wasn't staying completely clear and I wasn't happy with how my skin looked. I started researching alternative treatments and found Jil's clinic online. After reading the information on her site and the Google reviews, I was ready to give it a try. Jil and her staff are not only so kind and professional, but they really know their stuff! She actually takes the time to get to know you and your skin to formulate a treatment plan specifically for you. The products she offers are incredible! I love the makeup line so much that I no longer buy any of my makeup anywhere else. She will go over everything with you that can aggravate acne, like diet and certain acne aggravating ingredients that are found in a lot of beauty products. She also provides you with resources so you can find products that won't aggravate your skin if you choose not to use her products, though I highly recommend using the products they offer. Her program may seem expensive, but I'm actually saving money compared to the hundreds of dollars I would throw away in the search for that magic serum or potion that would fix my skin. My skin now looks and feels great! I can't thank you enough, Jil! You've changed my life. I really wish I would have had you in my life...
Read moreJil is like a skin god, I really don't know how else to put it. Several months ago I started getting this really, really weird rash on my face and chest. It was very rough and bumpy in texture and would itch whenever I'd sweat. It was mostly around my hairline and on my forehead. I was extremely frustrated, to say the least. I tried all sorts of washes and scrubs to get rid of it but absolutely nothing helped. Sometimes it made it worse. So I decided to look around and find someone who was not a dermatologist. I wanted someone who KNEW skin. Who would take the time to actually figure out what it was, and what I could do to fix it. The fact that she was willing to offer a 1 hour consultation just to look at my skin and go over what I should/shouldn't use on my face, etc, was exactly what I wanted and I wasn't disappointed.
At the initial consultation she couldn't figure out what it was but took pictures and sent them to other experts. I thought that was really nice of her. I felt that she really went out of her way to figure out what was wrong and how to fix it. She sent me home with some products and a pamphlet that gave me all the information I needed to treat my skin. Within a week it had improved SO much, I was so happy. Skin problems are mentally debilitating--it really affects how you view yourself. You lose all confidence in yourself and you avoid social interactions as much as possible because you become ashamed of yourself to some degree. You feel like other people will perceive you as "dirty" or "unhygienic". Which sucks because this kind of stuff is completely out of your control. It's just your skin being stupid. And my skin has always been extremely sensitive and stupid.
So what i'm trying to say is Jil has fixed more than my skin. She's fixed me mentally too. I feel so much better about myself and that has been worth every penny I've ever spent. You will not regret going to Jil-whether you have acne problems or some other weird problem that you can't explain. She will fix it! Just make sure to listen to her and follow her regimen EXACTLY. She kept telling me to stop wearing liquid makeup, and that it was causing the pimples that kept popping up on my face. I kept hoping it wasn't the makeup but as soon as I stopped wearing it they all went away and they haven't come back. Sorry, Jil. :( You were right and I was wrong.
Bottom line: Go see her! She is amazing and you will...
