Electric Fetus — Attraction in Minneapolis

I bought and had an issue with a new pressing of Speaking In Tongues where the record would skip immensely at the beginning, not thinking much of it I came in to exchange it for another copy. Unfortunately the manager was extremely rude and presumptuous implying that it was my fault because there was debris on the record that “they would never sell” which although yes there was some debris on the record when I brought it in, it still skipped fresh out the packaging when it was at the standard they sell their records at. Either way he was willing to exchange and while he was doing so, one of his workers (who was visibly frustrated with the situation) questioned me about what record player I used and was quick to blame it on that and said “it’s common knowledge” that the album would not play properly on my lp-60 and that I should get another record even though the record still skipped when I tested it on my roommates set up that did not have the same player as mine. I understand that there is probably a lot of people that come in complaining about issues that may be caused by something they’re doing, But it isn’t a great business practice to be pretentious and belittle your customers over it. I was never rude or pushy about anything, I just figured there was something wrong with the pressing I got because I assumed a rerelease of 40 year old record...

In my very biased opinion, I think the Electric Fetus is one of the best record stores in America. I first went there in 1969 when it was basically a Head Shop. It's much expanded now and they have a great selection of records, CDs, other musical items, gifts, candy, music, collectibles, paraphernalia (If you know what I mean), and so forth. Their records and CDs are both new and used. The selection is excellent. Here's a good thing to know. Underneath the regular record stacks on the floor in milk crates are $0.99 records. They're in great shape and they're great bargains. They also have a bargain selection of $0.99 CDs. The service is great. Electric Fetus has enough staff aboard and they're very knowledgeable and helpful. Also, you can take your time at the Electric Fetus going through records , CDs, and so forth. You don't feel rushed or pressured to buy, but with such great things you WANT to buy! By the way, when Prince was alive he would come into the Electric Fetus as a customer and an admirer of record stores. In fact, he was there days before his death, at National Record Store Day. My first trip to a record store..ever. You are greeted first with a gift shop, right inside the entrance - the smell of incense, quirky indie-hipster novelty gifts, and a cabinet fit for a headshop.

Further in, as you make your way across the creaking wooden floors you'll find records. LOTS OF THEM. It was a bit overwhelming at first, but the layout is fairly intuitive and well organized. You'll find everything from a new arrivals used section, used, older vinyl, and rows and rows of new presses. I spent hours in here purusing the aisles. I ended up emerging with a few goodies from both new and used vinyl areas, as well as a grab bag of R&B records 10 for $4!! They have listening stations of you need to listen to a record before making the purchase. Personally, I just opened up Spotify to search music, but as a vinyl noob, I wasn't too concerned with the physical quality.
