I’ve had my hair cut multiple times and colored 3x at this salon. The haircuts have been fine, but you can absolutely find equally talented stylists for under $100, even in that $60-$70 range. I have mostly straight, fine hair.
I was unhappy with my hair coloring experiences. The first colorist I did a consultation with and had color her hair. It soon became clear during the process she did not listen to or remember what I wanted, and in retrospect was clearly in over her head but didn’t go to talk someone who was more experienced—I was so upset with the end result that I spoke to the salon and they paired me with one of the colorists/educators to fix it. (Good customer service there!)
I saw this second colorist for the fix, and one more time. But I still I felt like I wasn’t being listened to or understood. I felt forced to pick a reference photo despite me not having a specific one I was aiming for and asking to talk it through instead. And then whenever I tried to explain what I wanted (a solid blonde, nothing crazy, but not balayage), and what I didn’t like, that was both compared to the photo (“that’s not what she has”—again, I didn’t even want to pick a photo because there wasn’t one I wanted to copy exactly) and advised against basically because it wasn’t what the colorist likes to do. (“I like to do lived-in looks,” “You’ll look like you’ve just left a salon.”) These were my first professional hair color experiences and I left unhappy but also wanting if it was somehow my fault.
I most recently went to a different salon based on someone’s recommendation, had a great color consultation with someone who totally listened and understood what I was looking for really easily, and we ended up having a really great appointment and I finally got color I loved.
I clearly wasn’t the right match for the Haus colorist, but for their price point I should at minimum feel like I’m being listened to when I explain what I want and don’t want—and not end up with what I don’t want just because the colorist likes to do “lived in” balayage and I was asking for something else.
I kept thinking it costs more than many other local salons, so it most be better, but that’s not the...
Read moreThere’s a parking lot in back with about 10 off-street spaces or so, which is nice because I don’t like to park directly on Nicollet (I’ve had someone do a hit and run on my car while it was parked on Nicollet before) I’ve uploaded some before and after photos of my haircut. I saw Eliza, she’s a senior stylist, and her haircuts are $70. On Yelp she seems to be the one they send every newcomer to and she’s very popular, but I’m sorry to say that I wasn’t very impressed. I received a reluctant & unbecoming lob.
In her defense, her & I did discuss removing 3 inches of length in the beginning of my appointment, but she clearly wasn’t listening when she decided to cut off 5 inches in the end, without re-consulting me. My hair was damaged from bleach and was difficult to tackle, which is why I picked Eliza after all of her raving Yelp reviews and this expensive bougie salon, but I could’ve gotten a blunt-ended lob with bangs that don’t blend at Salon Oriana in Bloomington or Hair Police in Minneapolis for $40.
Not to say that either of those salons are bad, in fact I’ve received great color from both salons, and my current color melt is from Heather at Salon Oriana, but I’ve received better haircuts from colorists at those salons for a lot cheaper. So why did I pay all of the extra money for a woman who supposedly specializes in cutting hair? She couldn’t even style it properly. The blow-out she did looked horrible. I had to go home and straighten it, and add dry shampoo for volume.
I understand my hair was difficult to work with but that’s exactly why I went the extra mile with this place. I was deeply disappointed. I won’t be bothering with a “senior stylist” again, that’s for sure. I think their tier-level idea of who is worth more to cut my hair is a major scam. I’ll likely give this salon another try just because everyone else swears by it left and right but I won’t be seeing Eliza agin. Her personality was empty, she was a terrible conversationalist - a talent everyone in the hair industry should have - and she didn’t listen to anything that I wanted, and now my ugly lob will take months and months...
Read moreI have been going to this Salon for a couple years now and have YET to be disappointed. From the minute you step in the salon you are warmly greeted by the staff and the trendy decor. They have a welcoming refreshment station for their guests and plenty of retail eye candy to entertain while waiting to see your stylist. once I'm in the chair, I can relax and trust that my stylist will listen to my needs/wants and execute with the highest professionalism. I see Marlee for my color and Kristin for my cut and style. However, I would be happy to see any stylist there and still trust that I will be 100% taken care of and leave looking amazing. In addition, the head/neck massages are amazing and the shampoo station doubles as an aroma therapy for me. LOVE the shampp/conditioner/gloss aroma!! I have an would recommend this salon to everyone. If you are looking for a salon and stylist you can call home, this is your spot! Keep up the...
