Even after establishing communication and submitting early applications with the appropriate departments—FAFSA and the Office of the Registrar—you may find that staff become frustrated with you for being proactive or “redundant.” Unfortunately, this does not prevent errors from occurring, and they may still happen despite your best efforts to avoid them. Additionally, the FAFSA department may ignore you, even if you’ve followed all procedures on time and maintained clear, written correspondence. These issues appear to go beyond typical volume-related delays, as both I and other students have exercised due diligence and submitted everything early, giving the respective departments ample time to resolve the concerns."
A major recurring issue involves out-of-state tuition status. Be prepared to thoroughly understand the Board of Regents' Policy 940.1, which defines in-state versus out-of-state residency. It is essential to maintain a clear and thorough paper trail of all communications and supporting documentation. Even when the error is obvious, the University may still reclassify your status to out-of-state—and then rely on date finality as a justification for the mistake.
In summary, while the academic experience at the University of Montana can be rewarding, the administrative and financial processes leave much to be desired, particularly concerning residency classification and financial aid. These challenges undermine the straightforward, integrity-driven, and student-focused values that the University of Montana...
Read moreWas great 25 years ago, why it is 2 stars and not 1. Went back after I got my masters to see what almost 5 grand (one 3 unit class) will get you—rote, unimaginative and boring. The subject was inherently boring, though there was so much the professor had the opportunity to do for the students and did not. Just copy from the outrageously priced and dull textbook. Literally would have learned more if I went to the library for class time. Would not send my kids here and I may or may not know a few things about education. On the working for them end, nope. Over qualified for a position, but I wanted it, as I could learn and move ‘up,’ got an email from the director of the program, promised nothing, though having never have I received such an email as a perspective, so I thought incorrectly, cool because of my current position I would at least get a 1st/selection interview, nope. Just the normal email saying sorry you were not selected, yada, yada—a couple hours after I left a current position there. HR I am still waiting for you to return my phone call. I clearly said my name and phone number in the message and my question; who is responsible for sending rejection emails? I am happily not directly affiliated with UM anymore, I will never...
Read moreHorrible place , expensive , especially for international students . Most classes are offered once a year , so if you fail them , you need to waste another year to retake them and unlock other upper division classes . The school is very disorganized , the faculty and the administration do not know their job very well , they do not do it well , and they do not tell the students what do their really need to do to succeed , very disorganized . I spent the worst 3 years of my life here . They have unrealistic expectation for the students , and you cannot criticize them , I have been expelled from the university just because of my honest criticism about their policy and unfairness. You can pay the same tuition to go to a better private school in the country. MSU is much better than this one , Ask anyone who has been in both universities , and check the enrollment in both universities . There are not many classes in the summer . THE ENROLLMENT IS GOING DOWN AND IT WILL STAY LIKE THIS, APPLY FOR ANOTHER UNIVERSITY , YOU WILL REGRET COMIN HERE for the money , time , effort you spent at...
