
On Monday, December 19, 2022, after a long workout, as I was walking out to my car, Lindsey said "have a good day". I replied, "I'm returning to use the massage chairs". I returned not even three minutes later, and Lindsey and Grayson asked to scan the barcode, so they would know my first and last name. Weird! Why would two employees need to know my first and last name, when I frequent the location, and returned to use the massage chairs? Lindsey also had a problem with me personally using more than one massage chair more than once. As a black card member, why would it be a problem to use the massage chairs more than once? I see the white members use it several times before exiting the facility and there is never an issue. Why is there an issue with a Black woman doing the same?
On Monday, January 16, 2023, Lindsey and Kendra walked into the ladies' locker room and asked me to turn the volume down on my phone. I was actually listening to inspirational motivational speeches that appeared to be offended by some unhappy, miserable, and angry white female members. Lindsey claimed it was too loud and the policy doesn't permit cell phone use in the ladies' locker room. I reminded Lindsey of our first interaction regarding asking for my full name, and that she should be mindful that most members don't follow the rules at all, especially in the locker room. In addition, I said that I will turn the sound down. The net day I decided to not turn it on because I canât deal with mental health issues of members and employees of the facility. All I need to do is workout, leave, and evidentially cancel my membership by turning my home into the fitness center of my dreams â so I donât have to deal with the mental health crisis in public spaces.
On Tuesday, January 17, 2023, I returned; after my shower, while doing my hair, Lindsey showed up with another worker to laugh, mock, and make ignorant comments. You canât make this stuff up. I had lost 17 pounds and a massive amount of inches, and now there is an issue with listening to motivational speeches in the ladiesâ locker room. A place for the public, where most women do whatever the want for a temporary period. Instead of one of the members saying âhey, your video is too loud, can you turn it down?â, a complaint is directed to the front desk like I was being confrontational, and I had no idea inspirational motivational speeches was offensive to anyone.
Now as I depart, I see two adult employees / owners of planet fitness sitting by the front desk. Wow. I often wonder if the same treatment was afforded to white members. And If I didnât comply, there are now four members of the facility there to confront me about playing inspirational motivational videos in a public locker room for women.
The entire situation reminded me of "Black faces in white spaces". I'm more than sure the no cell phone usage in locker room policy was implemented to target Black members. The White members do whatever they want, no one complains, and the employees don't police their actions. Lindsey is a bully and a racist, and I'm more than sure the owner and her gang are as well.    Read more10/12/25 update: Gym was supposed to open at 7AM today. Myself and others waited until about 8:30am and no one showed up to open. Called at 9am, no answer. Called again around 9:15am and apparently it had finally opened then. This is not the first time the employee scheduled to open the gym was super late or never showed up. So unprofessional. Zero communication given to members about it. We called other nearby locations and they had no idea either. Unacceptable and poorly run. I used to go to 2 other planet fitness locations for many years and this never happened at them. At this location it's happened at least 3 times in last last year or two.
10/29/24 update: Their "crowd meter" is way off and inaccurate. All the other locations show significant amount of the bar filled at peak hours before and after work, but this location shows 1 or 2 bars 24/7. It's clearly not calibrated properly. It's probably missing areas by the weight machines and free weights and going off cardio.
9/21/24 update: After expressing my concern to the gym manager, nothing has changed. The music is still too loud in certain areas of the gym. If you sign up, do yourself a favor and buy active noise canceling headphones, otherwise you'll have to hear garbage background music while listening to your own music/podcasts. She continues to cater to the 5% of gym members who don't wear headphones.
2/6/24 update: Music is still way too loud. Loud in the sense that it's hard to listen to my own music and almost impossible to listen to podcasts without putting my headphones at uncomfortably loud levels to drown out the gym music. Management a long time ago told me they have it on for people that don't wear headphones which is next to no one! The music should be at a low volume or not on at all.
6/8/22 update: Music is even louder now (yesterday's visit)! Why the heck is it so loud??? 99% of members are listening to their own music on their headphones. This is super annoying. If they don't come prepared with their own music - that's their problem. Don't make the rest of us have to deal with it! Just adjust the gym music volume to low.
4/21/22 another issue: I wish they'd lower the volume of music playing. 90% of gym members have headphones on anyway. This seems to be a problem at every location. It should be at half the volume level it currently is.
New Yearâs Day 2022: Hours posted on door, website, and google search all show open at 7am. Got there at 8am, doors locked and no answer when calling. 8:30: still locked, no answer. Super annoying! Almost 9am now, still locked and no answer. About to give up and go home. On 11/2/23 at 10:30pm, I approached the front desk to ask questions, there was one male and female employee were working, i asked the male staff question, about the class program/schedule, he had ear bud in his ears and didnt listen to what i said, he took it out of ears and have me to repeat, i understood and repeated, he didnât seem like he knew the answer so he asked the female staff who was couple steps away from him , i heard him saying âsheâs asking about the design your own programâ but she also took ear buds out of ear and came to me âwhat did you ask?â , i asked him if he heard what i said, he DENIED. after i heard him repeating what i said. At that point, i was really annoyed, they were completely unprofessional, having me repeat 3 times, i said you guys keep making me repeat and have ear buds in ears not listening! Im not going to keep repeating even the first time, i understood but honestly they should have taken out ear buds when they saw the client was approaching.
