I spent a significant amount of time in the Rehab after My knee replacement surgery. My experience in the beginning was extremely stressful until I was settled into a routine and a recovery plan was put in place. As far as physical therapy, I felt that I could have benefited more from PT if I was able to have had a little more time in each session, as far as the PT Team, as a whole, I felt that They were extremely kind, helpful and knowledgeable. I also felt that they prepared me for My outpatient PT and healing journey. Now, as hard working as the Kitchen Staff is, I feel that the food could use an excessive amount of improvement. When it came to the nurses Aides, and I really need to be honest here, I know that that is not an easy job, and that many of them take some abuse from Patients, and they may be overworked, but I really felt that many of Them need to show more empathy and compassion towards the Patient. I do want to give recognition to a few of the Aides that I felt were exceptional: Sheryann, Anna, and Mary (last names unknown) and the Nurses and Doctors were wonderful, the one Nurse whom I felt went above and beyond was Alima Sow, she was so kind and helpful. She really got to know Her Patients on a personal level, which actually made my Rehab stay alot more pleasant, because lets be honest here, NO ONE wants to be in the Hospital/Rehab/or Nursing home for a long period of time, that alone is stressful and depressing enough!! When the Director of Recreation was making visits, to explain that the Rehab had a lot of activities to participate in, I was all for this, being that I wanted to do more than sit in bed all day. this is what REALLY encouraged Me to get out of bed and to get involved and and start feeling back to My old Self again and hopeful about My recovery. Being involved in an activity, especially bingo, helped me to get involved, meet other People and get out of My Own head, because after having a major surgery, feeling alone and being emotional is not a good place for any person to be in. I really felt that the Director of Recreation, Nestor Beard, was My biggest motivator, he was very encouraging, and heartfelt and really cared about the Patients. He strongly supported me throughout My stay and encouraged me to get involved. I also want to mention Rebecca Resh, she was sincerely compassionate, and was always there to help and guide Me throughout My stay. Overall, I felt the Rehab met My needs to the best of its ability. Now that I have transitioned to outpatient PT, I am able to also incorporate the skills I was provided during My stay. I had a rough beginning, but I am glad I chose this Facility to recover from My Surgery. (attached is a photo, from an activity, an art show was put together in the Lobby area for all to see, I was surprised to see that Nestor Displayed my Photographs from my web page. These are the kind of little things that really help encourage People to want...
Read moreThe role of a nursing home administrator is to monitor and maintain appropriate standards of care throughout ALL departments in the facility. Additionally, they are responsible for effective communication both internally to their staff and externally to the family members of the residents in their care. Eli Freund clearly only seeks to meet these standards for the rehab portion of his facility, leaving the long term elderly residents sorely lacking the appropriate attention and respect.
Our father, diagnosed with dementia and on Medicaid, was at this facility for the past three years. While never super impressed with the facility, Medicaid leaves few possibilities and we did believe that our dad was getting appropriate care. The events leading up to his death and even after his death leave us horrified that we allowed our dad to live there.
In the course of a week we were told of multiple medical issues never disclosed before (and both my sister and I had proxy). We were led to believe this was “no big deal”. Ultimately, it was determined that he had only weeks to live. We received NO CALLS from the facility, and in fact, had to consistently email and call to receive any information at all. It took threats of escalation to get any resolution on hospice and palliative care. Our dad passed away two days after resolution of hospice care. Again, we received no communication from the facility on next steps for collecting his belongings or anything! Not even a condolence! When we reached out to the social worker and Eli Freund we were told to “pick a day”. We did so and when we arrived were rudely pointed to multiple trash bags of my dads belongings lying carelessly in the lobby. Items were randomly tossed in, trash and bedpans mixed with broken glass of treasured family photos. We complained and were ordered to “wait in our cars”. A maintenance manager said he would “repack everything” (which did nothing to remedy the damaged items or the blatant disregard - nothing can).
During our 90 minute wait in the car I emailed Eli Freund to let him know the situation. Shortly afterwards we witnessed him walking in the building directly past us. It was clear he both saw us and was aware of the situation but we NEVER heard from him.
This situation was appalling, heartbreaking and utterly disgusting. Eli Freund should not be allowed to administer “care” to anyone’s loved ones. Do not allow yours to stay here and please do not keep them in business by doing your rehab there regardless of the positive posts for the “state of the art“ care for the non elderly versus those...
Read morePlease reconsider bringing your love one here. The fifth floor is beautiful but that is it. We brought my mother here on Dec 21 for care on the 5th floor. For four days no one could give us a strait answer on where her covering doctor was and when we finally got a answer the orginial doctor never told the doctor covering or nurse practitioner that my mom was her patient. It resulted in my mother getting dehydrated and was sent back to hospital for Parasitus and a skin rash due to their negligence. So we couldnt see her. She was sent back on Jan 5th where then they put her on the 4th floor which is the covid floor {she did not have covid when she left in the first place. My dad again could not get any help or answers on where her feeding tube was an no one even helped him when he needed to get my mother a bed pan. He went to find one himself. My mother pleaded with him to stay and he could not- I called myself at 10:30 at night Wednesday to speak to a supervisor an their was none available after being on hold for 20 minutes .. I wound up driving there and staying till 1 am in the morning to make sure she had her feeding tube in and her medication from the dehydration . The 4th floor was dirty and random patients were coming in her room. Friday afternoon the 7th she was complaining of hip pain - long story short because I could go on and on - her roommate told us after the fact... she was back across the street and once again could not see her for a week... when my dad went to pick up her clothes... her roomate told my dad she was screaming for help to go to the bathroom an no one came to help and she fell out of bed and a male aid nurse came in an stuck her back in bed and didnt document it. When my dad went to get the nurse supervisor to have the room mate tell her what happen -she didnt even put on all the protective gear you are suppose to put on for the "covid " floor and she didnt really seem to care about what happen nor document it ..... Saturday at 3 am in the morning they called me to tell me my mom had a fractured hip and had to go BACK across the street for a xray which showed a hip fracture and Sunday she had to have a "pin" put in. SO please please go some where else any where but here. My mom was also a nurse for 30 years and I understand " healthcare workers " are going through al ot but this was total neglect. An one person did call to tell me they were going to "investigate" Havent heard from her since. My mom didnt even have 3 hrs worth of therapy the total wasted stay she was their. Please do...
