Andrew Carnegie built 2,509 free public libraries throughout the English speaking world, and the Mount Clemens Public Library on the corner of North, Grand and Macomb Streets, was one of them. His offer was simple, and it became known as the “Carnegie Formula”: he would put up the money to build a free library in a city if the city agreed to spend at least 10% of that amount each year to support it. In 1902 Carnegie wrote that Mount Clemens was a “go-ahead” city, and he offered $15,000 to build a library if the city would spend at least $1,500 annually in its support. Construction was begun in 1903 and the building was opened in 1904. It is of neo-classical design, highlighted by its red tile roof and Doric columns, and is one of the finest of its kind in Macomb County. The main floor included a public reading room and two wings, each with its own wood burning stove. In 1913 a half balcony with a glass block floor was added, and in 1929 the basement was converted into a children’s room and the children’s collection was moved there. Read moreDisappointing, help is non existent here. How can be an engagement manager and not read or reply to emails for a week?
I wanted to get my daughter into art classes. The one we wanted didn't show up on the registration page. It says to email their "Education and Community Engagement Manager" "Peggy". So I do just asking if it's possible to get a spot. I get a reply 4 days later. No big deal, I respond to her questions. Within 2 hours of receiving her email. Once again going on day 4 and have heard nothing back. This is just terrible service. If you can't answer emails within 2 business days then I question the company/business.
I'll never do business here, if the person in charge can't answer a simple email then why would I spend money there? Plenty of other art classes and I'd suggest...
Read moreThis place is great, and as other comments said is community lead. I believe it’s mostly volunteers handling everything. There’s rotating exhibits, they’ll show student work as well as art made by other macomb residents, and that’ll include things such as: pottery, paintings, photography, I’ve seen other mixed media like collages, knitted or yarn projects. I love that you can go here month after month, and no two exhibits will be the same. Another lovely fact, most of the art is for sale. There is a gift shop, but separately if you have enough money you can take a painting right from the exhibit. Overall it’s a 10/10 museum, if you like museums like this. You’ll also like the Pontiac Creative Arts Center because they also do the rotating vendors, and much of the art there is also...
