Very frustrated. Remodeling the library took forever and cost extra on top of the money it already costs to run the place and some of the people that work there make it as difficult to use as possible.
My 16 year old has used a study room there every week for months on the weeks we can book one (once a woman insisted she needed to show the card to use it in addition to me needing a card to book it in the first place so that was fun and random) and a woman who worked there just insisted I needed to stay there for ten minutes until her math tutor arrived because she's a minor and she needs supervision. It's okay for a minor to be in a closed room with an unrelated adult (which is reasonable! They don't know these kids actual ages, relatives, names, or backgrounds and the rooms are made of clear glass- let's use common sense here) but she can't be alone on her phone at a table in a clear glass room for ten minutes.
Unnecessarily controlling, petty, managerial behavior from someone who needs to mind their own business and doesn't exactly bode well for the future. Looking forward to birth certificate, state issued ID, and family tree checks before people are allowed to use any of the services they already pay for because some of the people who work there feel like they're doing you a favor by showing up for work and want...
Read moreLet me start off by saying I LOVE the remodel. And they have a lot of things to offer and am proud of mount Clemens. However, the kids department, despite all the amazing updates has some red flags that I personally want to avoid for my children and wonât be going there often or at least on high alert of what my children grab off the shelf.
This childrenâs book is about a little girl that believes she is not a girl but a boy. This was a book my 4 year old took down from the shelf and started reading. I was able remove it from him quickly but I was surprised it was so accessible and not in its own LGBTQ+ section for children. If you even believe such a thing should belong in the childrenâs section. I do not. But it is a public library. I only wish It wasnât mixed in with all the rest and in its own section so I can easily avoid the section and allow my children to still enjoy the library. Again, despite the updates this is a big enough flag for me to avoid...
Read moreWe LOVE our newly remodeled public library! The execution of their plans to make this space inclusive for all people is beautiful. There are open tables and computers for all to use. The librarians are extremely helpful with whatever you need. The new Young Adult section is awesome, you can sit on the bean bags to enjoy your new read or sign up for a slot online to play video games. The kids area downstairs always has pictures to color, excellent displays of what's new or on topic for the month, as well as the cutest play and dress up area. We also love the board game area, there are tables near by to play the games, read, be on your laptop, whatever. They also hold weekly and monthly activities, classes and fun things to do! I can't say enough wonderful things about...
