SkateCenter West — Attraction in Murfreesboro

I wonder if this place ever changed ownership or management. I remember going there when I was like 18 to pick up my niece and her friend after they called to be picked up. My mom waited in the car and I went inside to find the girls. I didn’t see them so I asked the guy in the front and he proceeded to give me a lecture about the girls (I’m not sure what they had done but apparently he didn’t like their behavior that night) I never said a word to him I just listened then out of no where he had a tantrum at me and told me “if you roll your eyes at me again” then he called for a cop who was there who asked for my i.d. I was flabbergasted because he had no reason to. I had done nothing wrong and I was not even rolling my eyes at the a hole I just wasn’t interested in his lecture I just wanted to pick up the girls and go. The girls did suddenly appear checking to see if we were there and luckily my mom came in because I had been gone for so long to see what was going on. When she explained who she was the man told me “you can leave” I meant to the car and waited in less then a few minutes my mom and the girls came to the car and we left. That man was an older white man abs I have no doubt in my mind that he was profiling me and being racist. Never the less who threatens a teenage girl telling her “if you roll your eyes at me again”. That experience is easily one of the top most worst experiences of my life and even though this has been years ago I have never forgot it because it traumatized me so much. Needless to say I never went back there...

Only been once but it was ok. Fumes were way too strong from the floor refinish, should have been aired out more before having patrons. I left with a migraine and the odor was so strong it was still on me when I left.

I did like the size of the rink and that the crowd here was more orderly and respectful than Smyrna. Until a certain point at least, where kids who were using trainers were whipping them around on the floor doing tricks I guess. Literally unmanned trainers being thrust in your path while a kid is racing to catch up to it, and no adults- parents nor staff, saying anything. This also contributed to me leaving earlier than planned. I’m very cautious skating around kids naturally as to cause no harm, but I don’t want to skate around people who are allowed to do senseless and dangerous things.

One other thing I found annoying was that as I tried to grab a bite to eat to take with me (fumes, light headedness) I was told they can’t sell me a slice of pizza because they were going to close in 30 minutes. Ok?? Why not make a “last call” announcement then? I had skipped lunch just to make it there for a decent session and had planned on just eating when I was done. As a first timer how would I know that you can’t order food at 3:57? That was pretty disappointing.

I feel like this is a place I’d come back to again still. After eating first, of course. The music was decent and the overall vibe was nice, minor annoyances aside. It not being over crowded is a huge plus to me. Would prefer it to be an adult...

Aged...and not in a good way. Rental equipment not in good shape. Rink is small. Setup is fairly dangerous with no barrier separating snack seating area from the rink and skaters. Snack bar doesn't take credit cards, and is very slow. Silly, nonsensical rules like you cant wear a hat backwards. That one is just weird. But worse than all of that - one of the managers is a genuinely nasty and bitter person. Can't even have normal conversations with him, because he is hyper-defensive.

My wife and I used to bring our 3 kids and their friends here, just because it's the only rink in Murfreesboro. But, we've just had too many bad experiences, so we wont be back. Essentially any other rink is worth the drive. Regular public ice skating hours at Ford Ice Center are even worth the extra miles to get a premium facility, staff, amenities and food.

Strongly considering opening a skating rink in Murfreesboro because this place is just that bad. A new rink would take all their business overnight as it's clear they only have customers because there are no...
