I have been to a lot of museums and used to work in the museum industry and I have to say the Warhawk Air Museum is truly outstanding. I was traveling in the area and thought I would drop in and probably find an old P 40 sitting in a disused hanger with some "grandpa's attic" displays. I couldn't have been more wrong. The whole facility is on par with any major museum. The whole building is decorated with posters and military regalia giving you an immersive experience. Rich, professional quality displays packed with objects and narrative panels. At the end of each display case there is a binder with the first-person accounts, references and history of the objects on display. Who does that! Most museums keep that information locked away in the collections but here you just reach over and can read the story of the person that wore that uniform or used the equipment on display. Not to mention the planes. Many of the planes on the floor of the museum are functioning, vintage aircraft.
Plan your visit well. Schedule lots of time and check the calendar. They have a yearly airshow. I missed it by a week but, believe me, I will plan a future visit to...
Read moreI’m originally from Afghanistan, but I currently live in Dallas, Texas. I recently traveled to Idaho, where a friend of mine — who lives in Orofino, about five hours from Nampa — came to meet us. He invited us to visit the Warhawk Air Museum, and I must say, it was an absolutely amazing experience 🤩. One moment that really stood out for me was seeing flags from many different countries on display — but unfortunately, not Afghanistan’s. That made me feel a little sad. However, at that very moment, my friend found and gifted me an Afghan military hat. That small gesture meant a lot to me, and I was truly happy to see something representing my country there. The Warhawk Museum is truly admirable. The staff were incredibly kind and welcoming. One of the employees took time to patiently answer all our questions and guided us throughout the visit with a warm attitude. I sincerely hope that the management of this museum recognizes and appreciates such dedicated and respectful staff members. Many thanks to the administration for creating such a memorable...
Read moreThe first time I came here, it was the first Tuesday of the month and there was an interesting speaker. Today, I brought my brother who is visiting from out of state.
There are vintage war planes that I believe are all airworthy. There are uniforms, helmets, rifles and pistols, bayonets, and other wartime paraphernalia. There are photos, and folders and folders of stories about the brave men and women of the military. There are vintage armored cars and helicopters. There are two vintage cars in mint condition. And so much more.
They have volunteers around that can add some richness to your experience. Today, I had a gentleman who regaled me with stories of his time in the Army in Viet Nam and as a policeman in Pendleton, OR, and Anchorage, AK.
I plan to go back sometime soon, by myself, so I can sit and read the stories of the veterans featured in the folders and binders on the long table at the entrance the the museum. So...
