I have been to a lot of museums and used to work in the museum industry and I have to say the Warhawk Air Museum is truly outstanding. I was traveling in the area and thought I would drop in and probably find an old P 40 sitting in a disused hanger with some "grandpa's attic" displays. I couldn't have been more wrong. The whole facility is on par with any major museum. The whole building is decorated with posters and military regalia giving you an immersive experience. Rich, professional quality displays packed with objects and narrative panels. At the end of each display case there is a binder with the first-person accounts, references and history of the objects on display. Who does that! Most museums keep that information locked away in the collections but here you just reach over and can read the story of the person that wore that uniform or used the equipment on display. Not to mention the planes. Many of the planes on the floor of the museum are functioning, vintage aircraft. Plan your visit well. Schedule lots of time and check the calendar. They have a yearly airshow. I missed it by a week but, believe me, I will plan a future visit to see that show!

This museum has a large collection of military history from people who served from the state of Idaho. Their plane collection is small, but the aircraft on the display are well maintained and still flown. They have 1 of 3 still flying P51c variants in the world. There are two P40 Warhawks that have a list of Hollywood credits to their name as they were featured in several movies. The main part of the museum is stories, posters, and gear used in the military from WW1 to Vietnam. There are plans we were told to add a 3rd wing to the museum with 2 more aircraft and stories/history from Vietnam to today. Paul or docent was very knowledgeable and great with the kids. As we walked to the different displays, he shared the stories of the people they featured, which was fascinating (for the adults that is). The kids were more interested in the large gift shop, of course, that had a great selection of shirts, aviation centric gifts, and toys.

This museum is definitely worth visiting if you are in the area. I recommend visiting on a day when you have plenty of time to spend here as the museum has a LOT of interesting exhibits that you will want to take your time looking at and reading about. The volunteers that work here are a wealth of information! Larry took me around and explained so many exhibits to me, as well as told me stories that I would otherwise never known about. The volunteers are happy to talk to you about all of it! We spent about 2-3 hours here and didn’t even make it a quarter of the way through the whole museum! There is a gift shop that you enter and exit through where you can purchase some souvenirs. Will make sure to visit again on a day when we can see the entire museum! Highly recommend visiting!

We purchased a membership to this museum, as we have two kids, 11 and 15, and we like to take museums in small doses of as little as 45 minutes if needed. Many times we do longer,, but the duration depends on complexity and amount of the information to be absorbed. This museum is chock full of all sorts of wartime artifacts. This visit was specifically to look for items we had seen in the 1st season of Band of Brothers, which our 15yo is watching for world history. What an amazing supplement to curriculum, and to life. Actual artifacts from General Doolittle amd other soldiers of all ranks, actual aircraft and other weapons. The staff is super friendly. Our first visit my 11yo and I got a spontaneous 10 min lesson from one of the volunteers.

We were only passing through town, but decided to stop. We are so grateful we did! What an incredible museum of HISTORY, not just of planes and war artifacts but of the lives involved. The care and dedication to each and every person represented is awe-inspiring. The volunteers, most of whom are veterans, continue their service to our nation with honor. We were fortunate to spend a couple of hours listening to stories of war heroes, specifically from Paul and Ron who took time to share incredible insights with is. They really brought history to life for us. Thank you to both of them and to the museum. We hope to come back and spend more time. It is definitely worth a stop. We only wish we could have stayed a bit longer.

Great place to help your kids learn about World War I and II (and others) I took some family and friends here while they were visiting town. One of them is retired military, and he loved this place! One of the things that I loved were all the things that have been donated by families. Keep in mind if you go during the summer it’s pretty warm inside. They have not yet brought the swamp coolers in and it was “slightly toasty”. They’ve got a great gift shop as well and if you were going here, make sure you go to Tower grill for lunch or breakfast. Parking was easy. Seemed fairly easy for wheelchairs. Discount for military and seniors
