This park includes forest, wetlands, and open fields; it is bordered on the north by the Nashua River and on the south by the Millpond and canal system and is 325 acres in size. The park has paved and natural earth trails that can be used for walking, running, biking and cross-country skiing. The wetland areas can be used for boating and fishing, The park has Soifert Memorial Park within it which has seven sports fields including fields for baseball, soccer, and lacrosse named. The park has benches scattered about the paved trail and a small picnic pavilion and other picnic tables. Depending on the season you may find red-winged blackbirds, song sparrows, common yellow throats, mallards, scarlet tanagers, Baltimore orioles, red-eyed vireos, chickadees, nuthatches and blue jays. A careful observer may find evidence of muskrat, beaver, otter, mink and raccoon in the wetland areas. The falls at Mine Falls is located on the Nashua River and is the site of a small hydroelectric dam with a capacity of 3 megawatts. The one major drawback to this park is the areas near and under Everett Turnpike as it is very loud. The one improvement the park could make is putting on mile markers on the paved trails, labeling all of their natural earth trails and putting up trail kiosks...
Read moreThere were kids, walkers, joggers, bicyclists, babies in strollers, and dogs on leashes. Everyone was happy and welcoming to one another. There were kids of all ages playing soccer in the fields and enjoying themselves immensely. The baseball field was fully available for use. Most wonderful though, was how clean the fields were! There were no visible people who worked / keep up on the park there that we saw, but the fields were remarkably clean and the grass was well trimmed.
Trails were mostly free of debris other than mulch that has been pushed along the trails here and there (from kids running, animals, nature, bicyclists, etc) Trails were all clear of anything hazardous such as branches or anything that could cause harm.
There are many places to sit (I.E. benches and picnic tables) Through out the park. Every place to rest is very well kept with fresh Mulch and wood.
My family and myself cannot wait to go back so we can explore this park some more! Still so much for us to see! I would suggest bringing bug spray, and even though there are many trees for shade, bring sun screen. Also, always check for ticks before you depart!
We will be returning very soon! We plan on getting there earlier next time so we can enjoy more...
