If I could give ZERO stars I would. This institution claims to support veterans but I would say that is absolutely incorrect. I have been given the run around for 3 months now. I have taken initiative and gone into the school multiple times to be sure that I was all good to register for classes at the start of registration. I was told multiple times that come April 1st I should be able to register. That being said alert after alert popped up on my account and I could not register. Every time I tried to get these problems resolved the staff would either be completely confused and not know what to do or point me to another staff member who also again pointed me to someone else. As you can imagine classes began to fill up very quickly and I almost could not register. After tons of calls and me going to the school multiple times I was able to register. It was as if I were pulling teeth. I had child care arranged (as you can imagine that does get expensive, I have 3 under the age of 6) for my appointments with the school. When I showed up to my appointments new alerts appeared and we were unable to proceed with what we needed to do because no one could fix it and no one knew why. Complete inconvenience and waist of my time and money. I was initially going to use my GI BILL but decided to use my Fasfa instead because I am only taking 4 classes. I only need 4 classes and I decided to take them at NSCC and transfer back to my home institution. I now have a new alert from Finance saying that I need 40 hours to complete my degree (totally incorrect, I need 12) and that I am barred from using my FASFA. It is now very very late to start my GI BILL and use it for the Summer semester. The information they have is totally incorrect and the only thing they could do is tell me to file for an appeal that will take another 2 weeks and then of course if I do get approved to use my financial aid then they will be starting my Fasfa Award very close to the summer semester which is also inconvenient for me as I am relying on my fed aid refund for summer child care so that I can take my classes.
I had heard so many good things about this school and how they support military and welcome nontraditional students. I have attended two other colleges and never have dealt with issues like this. The staff always looks confused and seems very nice but very unhelpful. I would say if your looking to go back to school and use this institution you need to apply a year before hand and be ready ready for tons of push back. I am still going to submit my appeal and hope for the best. At this point it is too late to apply to a different school and take...
Read moreI honestly wish it was possible to give business a zero rating. I would not recommend NSCC to anyone. Especially if you are an active working adult trying to finish up your degree. I started the admissions process with this school in January. I was told that I was going to have to do an appeal because the previous year I had to withdraw from classes do to a server car accident that required surgery. Long story short, the communication with the administration is like playing a game of ping pong. No one knows the policy and procedures each department referred me to other departments because no one knew anything. My advisor was not responsive, you never talk to anyone in the financial aid office that can make a decision unless you make a little noise. Expect to always talk to a customer service rep and never get a call back or returned emails. Mind you I started the admissions process in January, April 28, they informed me I would have to come up with the cost of my tuition not even a week before tuition was due. NO one took responsibility or accountability for the poor treatment I was given, their attitude is they can do what they want to mess up your future hopes and dreams and regardless of what they do wrong you will have to pay for it. I meat the Dean and even though she asked for me to email her and keep her in the loop of what is going on she never responded to emails or picked up the phone to call. I guess it all falls down from leadership.
I only have four courses left before I can apply to a nursing program, and because of the way they mishandled me and how unclear there policies are I will have to pay for the classes out of pocket, and that's ok if that information was given to me clearly when I first started this process other then giving me false hopes of my classes being covered by TN Reconnect. IF I'm going to have to pay for classes out of pocket I will not give a dime to this school. Thankfully I found another school that has the program I need and the customer service at Volunteer State Community School is world class and...
Read moreI enjoy the fact that it has a very large selection of online class and multiple campus locations. The staff at the Humphreys County campus location has been very helpful every step of the way. They have been kind and never rude even though I had a billion questions. I did not give them five stars because even though my campus and its staff is awesome the main campus if awful. Just calling for simple questions is a pain. Most of the time I had to leave a message which was never returned. They say within 24 hours they will return your call. HaHaHa fat chance of that happening. The operators are always rude the people in admission and financial aid department are rude. Everyone I spoke to one the phone at the main campus was to busy to be bothered.. I guess they forget that these classes are not free. They actually cost a lot of money and so the staff that work there are not doing us a favor by answering our questions but actually they are doing their JOBS! They get paid to do this so less attitude would greatly be appreciated. That being said the only nice things I have to say about the main campus is the guy at the book store I think he was running it was assume he helped me out a ton. Gave me very help information and was very patient and just absolutely a great help. Also the lady who did my student I.D. was very positive and upbeat and even though I only interacted with her for a few minutes she was not rude and she gave me all the information I...
