I have been meaning to write a review about the Bob Ross art gallery and workshop since the day I went. Before I went, I did a lot of research and read a lot of reviews and saw that their lowest rating was four stars. In all of the reviews, there was never even the first single-word about the facility. between that fact, and my love for Bob Ross art, I booked myself into one of their classes.
There are no words to describe what a magical experience that day was. I am absolutely terrible when it comes to creative painting. I can paint the house, I can paint a wall, but asked me to paint something abstract and creative, and I'm going to fail. At least, that's what I thought, until I took the Bob Ross class.
Bob Ross was more than just a painter, he represents a type of peace that is apparently contagious, and that was evidenced upon walking through the doors of the gallery. The two people that were running it we're above and beyond super nice, and exuded happiness. That quickly rubbed off on to all of us taking the class. From the first brush strokes of phthalo blue that created my sky and water, complete down to the very last happy little tree that I painted, it was all together a wonderful experience. Such a good experience, in fact, that I booked myself into three more classes before I even left that day; and have gotten at least seven other friends of mine interested and wanting to join me at some classes.
The $50 price tag includes the instruction, the canvas (which can be bought separately for $10, so let's start doing the math of what a great deal this is), use of all painting tools required, all the paints that were required for that particular picture (and if you ran out of any color, they were more than happy to provide you with more), and the phenomenal instruction from the teacher.
My overall experience and recommendation is that if you are planning a trip to or near New Smyrna Beach, call ahead and see if they have a class available. It's worth the time and money in...
Read moreThis Art Gallery and Workshop teaches the Bob Ross style oil painting. The teachers are great, friendly and very helpful. You can tell they love painting. You can take the week-long certification classes or 2-3 hour classes. All classes are suitable for people with no painting experience. They teach landscape painting, as Bob Ross did, floral painting and wildlife painting. Students come from around the country. They have paintings by Bob Ross on the wall that will give you goosebumps. Bob's paintings are even more impressive in person. There are a couple paintings by Steve Ross, his son, as well. 20 years after Bob is no longer with us, this place is keeping his tradition alive. I was there for a week long class and I loved it. I am going back for another two weeks.
The workshop is the only place that certifies people to teach the Bob Ross style and they have very strict standards they must adhere to guarantee they are promoting the Bob Ross brand. Many people who take the three-week certification classes just want to master the technique though, so you are not required to become a teacher. If you want to learn oil painting in the Bob Ross style, this is the...
Read moreSo you want to go to an art gallery? A place that is filled with all kinds of art and each room is a different theme of art? Then you will not find it here. What you will find is the message and simplicity of Bob. You will find a single room where the top row of paintings on each wall is his. A single room filled with tables for you to sit at and learn. A single room that loudly states the message of a man loved the world round. "Look at what can be done with your imagination. Have seat, and let me show you how easy it is for you to do this too." For those of us that loved to invite Bob Ross into our homes every episode, it is a wonderful thing to come here and feel as though we have been invited to step into a part of his. So come here, look around, be amazed by what his legacy has taught others to do. And sit down and learn to paint for a while. And remember, "There are no mistakes. Just...
