Brought Wife #3 to Canarsie Pier to clear the air after she found a mystery chai receipt from Qahwah House in my car — dated her birthday… but not with her name on the mobile order.
We came here for “fresh air and closure,” but I knew I was entering court proceedings without legal representation. She had that silent-wrath energy. The type where she opens the trunk before the car stops just to make a point.
We’re walking the pier. I try breaking the ice. “Look at that sunset… SubhanAllah, right?” She says, “SubhanAllah that you’re still alive.”
I start fumbling a speech about Qadr, rizq, and how the Prophet used to frequent marketplaces… but she’s not having it.
Right then, this random old fisherman — full white beard, kufi, smells like sea bass and barakah — turns to her and goes: “Daughter, forgive your husband. Sometimes the fish bite other lines, but he’s still holding yours.”
She pauses. I pause. We both try to figure out if that was wisdom or a warning.
Then he pulls out a fresh grilled snapper wrapped in foil and offers it to her. Says: “He stood here all day catching this for you.” (Lies. I’ve never touched bait in my life.)
She takes it. Smells it. Says: “…Fine. But you’re driving me to my mom’s after this.”
I nod like a man who just dodged a haram death.
Canarsie Pier delivered: fresh catch, fake fishermen, and fragile forgiveness. 10/10. Might bring Wife #1 here next week — if the...
Read moreThis spot is one of my pet Winchester favorite places to visit. He likes meeting people, he loves kids, and looking over the water. When the female dogs bark when he walks by, he would just sit there and look at them for a minute, and continue his walk.. when he gets tired, he would go under a bench, lay down and cool off, then we start up our walk Again..
After the Cool off, we would start up the walk again.. Winchester stops to make some poo in the grass in which I picked up (can't afford any fines, #BrokeSista!) And headed on home.
As we were about to go towards the underpass, Winchester stopped walking and sat there for a min. When I looked at him to see what was wrong, he jumped up to my legs, as if he wanted me to pick him up.
It was then that I positioned myself to bend down to pickup my Little "Baby" (9years old..63 in Human Years) and carried him across the street. Once I was across the street, he was ready to continue his walk home. He had a great time..And So Did I.
Until...
Read moreGreat place to relax with friends, have a BBQ or fun day. You can also do fishing or just walk around the pier for exercise,it is also very beautiful at nights.
It was awesome. I would totally recommend to anybody who is bored. Lots of free parking .bathroom facilities, bring a chair and relax. Quiet place to fish in Jamaica Bay.
Watch fishermen try and catch the big one (surprisingly doesn't smell like a fishy area either) there are trails which begin at the entrance of the parking lot which you can walk, jog or bike.
If you bring the family on the side of the parking lot you can bbq and there is a sprinkler tree to refresh the little ones. This is a federal site run by park rangers so it's super safe here.
If you want romantic area away from everyone it can work too. But I enjoy it so I can read a book, listen to music or just nap and sunbathe with a...
