Brooklyn Public Library - Jamaica Bay Branch — Attraction in New York

For the last 3 weeks I have been going here to study for a standardized exam, so I do like to have my own space without distraction. I bring my own laptop and at times I do need an outlet to recharge it. Instead of creating ways to make outlets accessible to patrons, the staff puts tape over outlets so you can’t use it. I have been sitting in the same area for the last few weeks using the outlet and today it was covered. To be polite, I asked if I could use the outlet instead of ripping the tape off as any other sensible person would do and I was denied.

Like I said I was using this SAME outlet weeks in advance. I was told to sit near an outlet where kids were playing or in an area that gave me no space to myself. None of the librarians who were on staff today were even understanding (I should have gotten their names). I eventually walked out because I have never seen something so RIDICULOUS as this in my life! Outlets are meant to be used last time I checked!

If you are looking for somewhere quiet to get work done and need to use outlets. This is NOT the place! Only in a black neighborhood would they do something...

Hi. I am a woman who regularly come to this location (Jamaica Bay Library). This library is always clean, orderly arranged and with great workers, but I have a few concern on what I witnessed here that makes it very important for an urgent need for a security officer. I am in trauma in what I have experienced, and still experiencing here in Jamaica Bay Library. 1). People that visit the library fight each other with all kinds of things. 2). No compliance to library rules and regulations. 3). Peoples lives are threatened 4). Workers are lied against and insulted

The library is close to where I live, so it’s convenient. The staff is really friendly and helpful. I try to get personal and work projects done here. It can be difficult because it can feel like a call center at times. Which; even with headphones, it can be inconvenient. I doubt it’ll change, because public libraries all around N.Y.C seem to be heading this direction; especially with more kids and parent programs...
