Great beach! Beautiful, clean, well maintained, and free parking in multiple lots. There are stairs and ramps to the boardwalk. Lot 1 has bicycle rentals. There's also a baseball field in lot 3. There are multiple bathroom buildings ( by lot 3 and 7, open 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. ). There's a restaurant by lot 2, and the Corvel ice cream truck usually stops by. Wonderful view of the Verrazano Bridge and Coney Island. Security on bikes and in trucks, do constant patrol. The sand is loaded with flies that bite, so bring your bug spray. Swim at your own risk - the water is filthy. There are outdoor showers by the bathroom, but occasionally that water is dirty too. Otherwise, a nice way to...

The view was amazing — the Verrazano Bridge and everything else — but the beach was the dirtiest place I’ve ever been in my life. There was garbage everywhere. On the beach, I saw dead fish, dead turtles, used condoms, and trash from Starbucks — basically every type of garbage you can imagine, both on the sand and in the water. The guy who was supposed to clean the beach with that sand-smoothing machine just drove over the trash and buried it deeper into the sand instead of removing it😀.

The place is fine if you’re just walking around to enjoy the view, but actually going into the water or staying on the beach is way...

This is South Beach in Staten island NY our summer destination every year. The beach is never crowed and the waves aren't strong like the Jersey shore. They have lifeguards on duty and the kids are allow to bring their water toys in the water so it's super fun for them. They have a boardwalk you can rent bikes and on wed they do fireworks! The drive is a breeze from Hoboken or Jersey City and there is always free parking and no entrance fee. They have public bathrooms on site, no enough public eateries but a wonderful restaurant and a boardwalk fast food place. We...

Went to the end of the pier and was fully disgusted by its decomposition. Rusted through railing, wooden barriers tied in front of the worst spots. Filthy cutting boards provided for fishermen, they have had the same filth from last season. That entire end of the pier needs to be power washed at the very least. Not even A lick and a promise fresh paint job on the structure that holds up the weathervane.

After a decade long hiatus due to Superstorm Sandy, the iconic Dolphin sculpture has returned. Standing tall at the far end of Sand Lane , it welcomes beachcombers back for another year of summer days. The dolphins have been revarnished with a gold finish giving them a majestic sun kissed look . Fountains have been turned back on to give a spraying effect.

Fountain of the dolphins is an art project at the entrance to South Beach. Next to the artwork is South Fin restaurant and The Vanderbilt catering hall (both closed now for Coronavirus). South Fin has reopened mainly on weekends. Call the Vanderbilt to check on hall rental.
