Bomba and Plena Community Workshops with Los Pleneros de la 21 LP21 offers in-person learning with the Bomba and Plena Community Workshops (BPCW)*. These intergenerational classes feature master teaching instructors, guest artists, and interactive lessons for children. Children explore the traditions of Bomba and Plena while understanding the social and historical impacts of Puerto Rican Diaspora as it relates to our home in East Harlem. The BPCW is LP21's own community school for cultural arts learning. The Bomba and Plena Community Workshops, offered since 1989, are a staple program in the community, and offer engaging music, dance, and creative arts classes to students and adults of all ages. BPCW has evolved as the place where students can come to learn and embrace powerful modes of self-expression, cultural awareness, and a sense of community, through active and dynamic participation in Bomba and Plena traditions. BPCW youth classes are held each Saturday beginning October 19th and culminate in the students' Graduation Performance June 1st! While grossly under utilized and worse mismanaged by the Hispanic Federation, its conceipt and significance is invaluable. El Taller Boricua/The Puerto Rican Workshop and Los Plenos de La 21 are what is left of the original cultural design. It's unfortunate and disgraceful for former NYC Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito to have schemed with fellow cohorts the Hispanic Federation, members of the local community board, and the "Man In the High Castle" to corrupt a selection process put forth by the NYC Economic Development Corporation to illicitly take over the center's management for future real estate...

It is sad it is not functioning at its 100% capability. The previous Administration left and for a year many of the center programs are closed. The good news is that a new group of Harlem residents are working diligently to recover the space to create multicultural programs and events to fulfill the...

Went to a music concert. Great setting. Cozy. Not a premium auditorium, but exceeded all our expectations. Being outsiders and getting in there just by coincidence, we can tell this is absolutely an important and fundamental space dedicated to the preservation of the latino...
