This place is set up like your older brother's fish room... organized chaos... lol, but everything has its place. However the staff are very friendly... and the fish quality can be rated from 4.0 to 5.0... very high indeed. The prices are also unbeatable in today's small retail trade. There is a big sign posted above the entrance off of Northern Blvd... the actual entrance is a staircase to the left that heads to a basement level. Take the stairs and turn to your right ... and walk into the above mentioned fish paradise. They have a wide selection of all interests and again the quality is high as there were no dead fish in the tanks ( I spent an hour going from tank to tank) and the overall maintenance appeared quite high. All in all they deserve and get a five star rating from me. The staff are never intrusive but are there to answer any questions. As an experienced aquarist I prefer to be left alone until I have a question or am making a purchase. They have the right mix there at KHC. This is one of three stores in Queens and Nassau that are now my go to stores. Lastly, they will try to fulfill exotic fish orders as well. They also give advice to the level of the customer, without talking down to the inexperienced as I have witnessed. They love to have serious, fun and genuine...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreBest local fish store in Flushing area. Their environment might not be the best since this is a basement store and it is indeed kind of dark and moist. But I was amazed by their customer service and the good health of their fish. I am a beginner in the hobby and I always presented to the store with loads of questions. Jerry the owner always answered my questions with patience. I once had a huge ammonia and nitrite spike so I took my problem to him. He said it was because of the lack of bio media in my filter and sold me a bag of $7.99 bio media. Within a week my ammonia went down to 0 and nitrite went from 1 to 0.50. You see, when I first got my aquarium it came as a kit and I just used the filter media it came with and it did not include any bio media. He also seemed truly passionate about fish keeping and was genuine to his customers. He was not one of those store owners who are only trying ro make money by recommending u unnecessary and costly products. I once even took my fish to him and asked him to house them for me for 2 weeks bc my nitrogen cycle crashed due to directly rinsing the media under tap water. He gladly accepted to help and housed my fish for free. Canāt...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI went here looking for rare colored freshwater snails and the owner didnāt have them, but said he would order them. Itās kind of a weird location, down a scary set of stairs, but the shop itself is filled with a great selection of fish at amazing prices for nyc. I see this place on lists of aquarium shops to check out in the nyc area but Iād never actually been before now. I ended up buying an entire school of harlequin rasboras for my planted 175 gallon tank. They were large sized - nearly show size honestly - and 3 bucks each. 3 bucks!!!! You cannot beat that anywhere. I will be back again and again, Iām certain. Be warned: if youāre clumsy like I am, thereās quite a bit to trip on and over in the shop. Itās a very New York experience and the...
