The first time I went here was about a year ago. I was building my first set of wheels and had bought the wrong spoke length for my rim. I looked to see if there was a bike shop close to me and Peak showed up as being a few blocks away. I perchased what I needed and met Jerry. He was very helpful and mentioned that I should bring my wheels in once I was done. Once completed I brought in my wheels, he complimented me on how true they were, which was awesome to hear since this was my first time buiding a set of wheels. But they weren't tensioned enough and Jerry also explained that they needed to be pulled more on one side and not be centerted in the middle. He charged me $24 for adjusting both wheels, which was fine for me. It was a good learning experience and the price was very reasonable.
The next time I went there was a little over a month ago and I spoke to Jerry about a bike that I want to build from the frame up. The frame that I was wanting to use was a 2013 GT Force Sensor 2.0 (Large). I had almost replaced evrything on my old bike myself and wanted to take on a new challenge. Hence me wanting to build an entire bike and Jerry explained a few things and was guiding me about parts and sizes. I learned a lot in that little conversation we had and decided to go through with my build.
Now fast forwarding to yesterday, I had just finished my second pair of wheels which are for my new bike and had Jerry look them over. One was perfect and didn't need any adjustment and my rear wheel was about a 1/4 in. off, Jerry adjusted it and I left a very happy customer.
Thanks Jerry for your help and knowledge, I definitely...
Read moreMy first steps into this store, I felt a little like Bart Simpson walking into the Android's Dungeon. Having just tried (and failed) to assemble my first purchased bike in over 20 years, I needed help. Badly. Thankfully, the owner was ANYTHING but Comic Book Guy.
Jerry is a swell guy if there ever was one. :) Despite having "NOOB" written all over my face, this man treated me like any other customer. He solved any problems and answered any questions I had, no matter how amateurish they might've seemed. He'll even offer advice.
I feel more educated about bikes everytime I talk to this guy. I've always been beyond pleased with the service he's provided. I specifically recall one instance where I had a flat and despite the fact that the replacement tire was a little more expensive than the one I had, he gave it to me for the same price. I was stunned, and thanked him profusely. How many store owners are that nice these days?! Not many!
I hope this place lasts forever. It's a shame I'm moving to another state soon, cause there's not another bike shop I'd rather give my business to than Peak Bikes. They even offer free tuneups for life if you buy a bike from them. Jerry and his wife are really unique store owners. As unbelievable as it may sound, despite the obvious age difference between the three of us, I could actually picture them as friends. Really special...
Read moreI've been to a lot of bike shops, but Peak is by far my go-to, even though I don't actually live anywhere near there, and I always recommend them to friends and riding buddies.
About 8 years ago I was riding an old bike that started skipping gears on a ride. I was many miles from home, so I looked up bike shops near me. Peak was the top-rated shop close to my location, so I rode over there. Jerry made a couple of adjustments, and it rode beautifully. I took out my wallet to pay, but he didn't want anything for it. From this moment I decided to go to Peak for safety checks, parts, and advice, and they've always taken good care of me. When it came time to buy my son a bike, Peak was the place. And when my old bike reached retirement, they came through for me.
Jerry, Joani, and their staff are straight-forward. They don't talk down to customers with less experience, like in some shops, and they never try to upsell you something you don't need.
They do great work, give you a clear estimate of cost for repair or replacement, turn around your bike when they say they will, and they always vouch for their work. They are usually very quick, but will be honest when they're backlogged.
And yes, the free tune-ups and adjustments for the life of a purchased bike is real, and it's amazing. It's no wonder they have such great...
