My friend and I visited Mizumi Buffet for lunch on a Thursday afternoon, and overall, we had a pleasant experience. The restaurant is open from 12 PM to 3 PM and again from 5 PM to 9 PM. It offers a wide selection of Asian cuisine to suit many tastes, including salads, seafood, meats, sushi, sashimi, soups, a variety of sauces and spices, as well as a generous dessert section. One of the best things about this place is its convenience and accessibility. There’s a huge, free parking lot with plenty of space, and a traffic light right in front of the entrance makes getting in and out from Northern Parkway very easy. The restaurant is also wheelchair-accessible, with a ramp for those who have difficulty with stairs. Inside, there are benches where you can sit while waiting for a table or your ride. Even during lunch hours, the restaurant wasn’t crowded. There were many available tables of various sizes—seating for two, four, or six people—and it seems easy to rearrange for larger groups. The waitress who served us was attentive and constantly made sure our plates were cleared and that we had everything we needed. We did order cocktails with our meal, and that was the one downside of our visit. The drinks were overpriced, and we couldn’t really taste the alcohol that was supposedly in them, which left us disappointed in that aspect. The buffet itself was enjoyable. We sampled a variety of dishes, and while one of the fish options wasn’t to my liking, the rest of the offerings were flavorful and satisfying. Each dish was labeled in both Chinese and English, which was a thoughtful touch—although I did notice a few English spelling errors. It’s a small detail, but something that could easily be improved. In summary, Mizumi Buffet is a great option for those who enjoy Asian cuisine. It’s spacious, accessible, and offers a wide variety of dishes to explore. While the drinks could use some improvement, the food and service make it worth a visit. I would definitely recommend this place and rate it 4 out of 5 stars.

I always wanted to eat at this buffet after reading so many overwhelmingly positive reviews on Google Local and Yelp. I am surrounded by outstanding sushi joints where I live in at Manhattan, so it was an adventure to move out of my way to visit Mizumi and see if the standards live up to most of the full star reviews. At first glance, Mizumi looked clean inside and the food looked as aesthetically pleasing as you see in the pictures, mind you I came on a Monday afternoon so I don’t know what it is like on a busy weekend. However, after my first bite, I was shocked that one of the most colorful sushi that I’ve picked up tasted surprisingly bland. I took a bite of another deliciously-looking sushi and it was just as bland. I picked each type of sushi (except the wasabi ones) and almost all came out tasting bland with the exception of one or two types that had somewhat of a resemblance of flavor. At that point, I moved on to hot foods and desserts which were delicious. I want to note that their shrimp dumplings were store-bought because I have to same ones in my freezer haha. Although Mizumi makes aesthetically pleasing food and has a friendly staff, it falls short on the food itself. If you live in/near Manhattan, I would suggest you go to Akino (Elmhurst) for AYCE sushi with a similar price point or Zest (Lower East Side) for more affordable, quality sushi. If you live in the outskirts of the city, where Mizumi is situated, then this is a good spot to go without traveling too far to eat decent sushi.

We have been coming to this AYCE Asian buffet on and off for a few years now. The restaurant is well lit, large and clean. I appreciate the modern décor with the stone floors and wooden accents. The food is presented well and organized nicely into sections: sushi, seafood, hot food, salad, cold food and dessert. The sashimi selection is very good and so are the soup selections in the back. I like that you can customize your soup with ramen and udon noodles. If you come for dinner, definitely try the crab legs and oysters to get your money’s worth. They have a good variety of hot food, but I really like the dessert options. They offer various flavors of sheet cake and cookies. Nothing exciting but very tasty. While the food is consistently good, it is one of the more expensive AYCE in Queens. And it’s interesting that they charge children based on their height. So, if you have a 5-foot-tall child, they will be charged as an adult. Also, they automatically add on the gratuity for parties of 6 or more. It’s nice that they usually have a lot of floor staff on hand and can clear away the plates quickly. Each time you go up for another plate of food, you can expect to come back to a clean table. Mizumi is conveniently located near the Q12 bus stop but for those that drive, they have a good-sized parking lot. Lunch service ends around 3pm and I would suggest not coming her after 2pm as they stop serving new food. You might as well wait for the dinner service but then you’ll be paying more.

Used to come here often and the place was poppin. I remember having to wait a little while to be seated due to the high volume of customers. It was my favorite place to eat with my family and friends last year and we frequented it regularly.

To my disappointment the quality has changed drastically.

Drove all the down to celebrate my graduation with my husband. We were at first surprised because they had replaced the hot pot with a regular buffet style, but i was nonetheless happy because they had expanded their selection of sushi and introduced some new items. Which i used to love, so we decided to stay.

We were instantly seated and the place was surprisingly empty, especially being a warm Friday night. We grabbed two plates of sushi and a plate of hot food to try. I immediately lost my appetite; the sushi was very dry and tasted old, and had no flavor but at the same time tasted strange. My husband said the hot bar food was cold. We debated whether to stay or not to give it a try, but just from the few pieces of food we got had made us lose our appetite.

We brought it to our waiters attention of the change of quality, and my husband asked for a discount on the food since we had only three none full plates of food and had been there for only about 10 mins. He instantly accused us for not wanting to pay! In which my husband immediately clarified that was not the case, we were fine paying the full price but did want to know if something more could be done.

The manager acted much the same and claimed there were "a hundred people" within the restaurant, but it was more like 4-5 families there with kids at most, there were 30 people there. And that there were "no other complaints" which must of meant ours were invalid? Which i found rude; people usually don't complain about restaurants but they do not come back instead in my eyes. I took time to look around and there were not many people there nor did many people have much food on each of their tables. It looked like most people there weren't enjoying their food either, but most likely just decided to eat because, as the manager put it, "its a buffet, theres nothing they can do once you eat something". The manager said he would "try the sushi to see for himself" but I didn't see him pick up a piece to even try. If he did try a piece, he failed to mention how it tasted to him (very interesting) and just told us he could comp the drinks.

So, we took the L and paid about $90 cash for the food and left quickly after (mind you we could have stayed to continue to eat but the food tasted that bad). Which is fine lesson learned.

In conclusion, this place has changed for the worse, the management lacked understanding and attempted to gas light us about the quality of the food; by attempting to invalid our experience by comparing us to other customers presumed experiences, which a simply statement of policy would have been enough for us. Even tried it himself but failed to tell us whether it was good or bad. We got accused of not wanting to pay by our waiter after explaining the issue, he acted quite aggressively despite us being more than cordial about it. The food tasted old like it had been out for too long, and the sushi all tasted the same with badly textured rice; i had better quality salmon at buffets that cost $15 per person vs $45.

Because of this experience i will have tell others to stay away and spread the word to my friend and family that this place is not the same. My whole family had plans for a gathering here but we will have to cancel with how things turned out today. I wish they would go back the old way or choose better quality ingredients for their food, and get a better hot bar set up to keep the food at appropriate temperature. Especially at the prices they are charging. I truly miss...

Most current and newest review 2/22/2024: Mizumi is back from being a stupid hot pot (total rip-off when only given 90 minutes to eat) to a full buffet with no more hot-pot offered.

Went there last night for dinner. EVERYTHING was delicious. The bathrooms are very clean. I use this measurement as a minimal benchmark in rating a place to go to.

The sushi, the soups, the salads are world class level, the food overall was great.

One negative though - be careful about NOT going at between 5 & around 6:30 pm give or take. Food that was not eaten during lunch is still being served over dinner and it's not great. Still good but I will not go and do not recommend going there during that time. The short-ribs that I had, were almost cold and very dry & over cooked. Still ate them (I love Short-ribs) and they were tasty, which is a tantamount to the quality of them. When the new freshly cooked ones came out, they were MUCH MUCH better. I will not make that mistake again. 7:00 pm is the right time to go there. Let those that NEED TO come earlier eat the left-over Lunch food items.

Great place. Go. You will enjoy the Food Party. Cost is reasonable for what you are getting.

Review of two years ago: Went last week for the 1st time in over a year. I was so so looking forward to it. It was just terrible. A total waste of money. The sushi was not fresh and I don't like hot pot all the time. Which is basically what this place is now. I remember the old Mizumi of greatness! It used to be the best buffet in all of NEW YORK STATE! I'm not exaggerating. I was so happy to hear they made it thru the pandemic. But its only a zombie of a place of what it used to be. Nothing at all worth over $32 for lunch! A total rip-off now. Bring back the old Mizumi and I'll gladly pay $35 for...
