Plumb Beach is a picturesque hidden gem in Sheepshead bay. Back when I was younger, we used to drive on the belt parkway every weekend, and I would see kites being flown over the sandy hills and trees once we entered or left Sheepshead Bay. I was always fascinated as to what was back there. Fast forward maaany years later, and me and my brother finally caved in to our curiosity, taking a beaten path through some trees alongside the walkway that runs next to the Belt. What we found was a nice little hidden beach well, not too hidden since there were other people there who clearly found it. but it was a sight to behold. There is a huge oyster bed with many horse shoe crabs sprinkled all over. A decent portion of marshland is in the area too, and yes, there is a slight repugnant smell that comes with marshland, but is easily eclipsed by the sea breeze. There were even little saltwater streams with fish swimming around. Farther along the beach, as you head even deeper into Sheepshead, you'll find more beach goers, and depending on the tides, there is a decent amount of space to wade and explore. It's a nice spot to get away and relax. There is parking btw in a small parking area, but it can get filled up very fast. You can park on the street however and just walk over. Definitely come give this hidden gem of Brooklyn a look see! It's no Caribbean beach, but it's still a nice spot to...
Read morePlumb Beach is a GEM!!! I came across it this summer, 2024, while heading to Riis Beach. I am so happy I told my friend to drive into the parking lot. Let's just say we did not make to, nor did we go to Riis Beach this summer.
Don't get me wrong, I L🥰VE Riis Beach. But it's nice to have a little seclusion and not have so many people on top of each other.
Back to Plumb Beach! Oh my goodness, what a wonderful, peaceful, and quaint spot. I pray people will keep it quaint, clean, peaceful, and joyful.
It's occupied by ALL ages, ethnicities, dogs, personalities 😁 and even faiths. Don't be surprised if you see a Christian Baptism, even church taking place on the beach.
You'll also witness all types of celebrations: wedding and baby reveal photo shoots, birthday parties, baby showers, etc. And of course, you'll see friends and family pinics and BBQ-ing.
But my FAVORITE things to watch are the various water sports like: windsurfing, kiteboarding, stand-up paddle boarding, kayaking, and of course people fishing, net fishing, clamming, and swimming.
However, ⚠️ CAUTION ⚠️ There are NO Lifeguards. So, please KNOW you have to swim and/or enter the water at your OWN RISK! That means WATCH the little ones!
I hope this inspired you to check out Plumb Beach. Remember, help keep it clean, fun, and a peaceful...
Read morePlum Beach is a small little beach tucked away on the Belt Parkway. It is run by the federal government as part of Gateway National Park. It has long been a place where the Gay community cruises for sex. For the most part that is pretty discrete. The beach is beautiful and there are often wind surfers there with beautiful kites. The water is very shallow for more then 200 feet out. This is a breading place for the Horse Shoe Crab. and you will find many dead ones on the beach. There are dunes from which people rest and relax and catch the ocean breeze. There is a family area. There is a small parking lot which closes at 9pm. There are no real facilities or rest rooms. Lately the hipsters have discovered this beach and have tried to take it over. I am not sure the locals like this. Someone took it upon themselves to build seating along the doons with driftwood. I could sit there for hours and enjoy the quiet place.
If you walk across the bridge along the Belt Parkway, there is a second part of this Beach which is secluded.
Remember: Nudity is not allowed on these beaches, you must cover your junk.
In the early spring as the flowers are blooming, the Wisteria plants there are in full bloom. They hang for all the trees on the bay side of the beach and are...
