It's a nice little park to rest at and isn't crowded. There are only a few benches and no shade trees. I ride the Belt Parkway (Jamaica Bay) Greenway from Howard Beach to Emmons Ave. and Brigham St. for some bicycling exercise and Lew Fidler Park is my turnaround point on the Greenway path. My actual starting point is near Roy Wilkins Park in southeast Queens, so it's about a 28 mile ride round-trip for me as Lew Fidler Park is my halfway point to turn back. I would usually stop at Canarsie Pier or Shirley Chisholm Park if I ride to Floyd Bennett Field or Riis Beach but they're not the optimum rest spots for the Emmons Ave. ride.
I only stop at the park to drink some water from my bottle and stretch my legs a bit and then I'm on my way back because there are no shady spots to dilly-dally at. I think there is a shade tree outside the park but no comfortable place to sit.
The park was clean when I was there on 3/19/22. No trash anywhere but it's early in the season yet. I'll see how it is on...
Read moreAn absolutely lovely park! It's new and we'll maintained. It's in a beautiful space, with a nice view of the water, and picnic seating, space for the kids to use scooters and plenty of play equipment. I also love the sprinklers in the summer! My critiques are that the play equipment is "modern", but limited, i.e. there is no slide, and VERY few swings! (Weird) Also, since it's a new playground, the trees are very immature...so unfortunately, very little shade in the summer, and very little protection...
Read moreI finally to go to the Lew Fidler Park with my granddaughter. I liked that it has tables spread out on the grassy areas. I wished it had enough swings for the kids. I did like the design of the sprinklers, that they are way up high not on the ground like some parks. This park needs slides also. The other peeved that I have is that I notice that there are a few homeless people sitting in the park. That's a bother some to me especially with...
