One of my top best open boat fishing experiences in a very long time.
We went out on the all-day fishing from 7am-3:30pmish on the Hunter today and it was a super fun experience. We fished for Fluke and there were a lot of fish onâmostly shorts but a few keepers. Some caught beautiful good-sized sea bass but we had to throw them back because the season starts tomorrow. đđ
The mates, Dennis and Sal, were very capable, patient and helpful. Very friendly and family-like atmosphere. The captain took us to various points on the NY/NJ Bight and though there were a lot of shorts, the action was constant.
The little extra cost to limit the passengers to 20 ppl max is definitely worth it. We didnât feel cramped or stressed. It felt like a charter for a midsized group.
Combined with the extra legroom, attentive and friendly staff, 6+ hours of actual fishingâeveryone on the boat had a good time.
Things to noteâthe boat is on the smallish side with only one table inside and cushiony seating bench area. Itâs good for 20 ppl with no frills. Donât come expecting a party boat with lots of seating, cafe on board, etc. Water and soda, tackle, bait & rod are included in the price, but no food.
Pack a good breakfast and lunch. Bring wetnaps and paper towels if youâre that type of person. Bring beer and enjoy.
The only downside was lack of running water in the bathroom sink today only and no place to sit while fishing but it was a really small thing compared to all the upside of this cozy boat.
I highly recommend this boat for all ages and skill levelâalthough I think itâs more of an adults only boat due to the size limit.
I will definitely come back on this boat.
Thanks Hunter Fishing!! See...
Read moreYou have to go out on this new boat run by two of the best captains in all of Sheepshead Bay. I went out with Captain Mike Ardolino on the Hunter Fishing Boat on 5 separate occasions since it has opened for business this year (4/19). When you catch 5 stripers your first day out on a new boat and one is 25 lbs, it makes you really want to come back for more. Well I came back and fished multiple times with Captain Larry Patrin at night and on their day trips and guess what happened? I caught two monster sized stripers in one day on the troll and just take a look at the pics below to see the size of the fish, OMG! I did so good on the Striped Bass and gator Bluefish, I booked a trip for Summer Flounder aka Fluke on opening day. We caught a bundle of fish, a good amount of keepers, and a 7 pound fish was the biggest one to come over the rail.
I fish on party (head) boats in CA, FL, NJ, NC, NY, GA etc and this boat is not a party boat at all! The Captains will help you catch fish if you are new to the sport, unlike many party boats where your on your own. This is not the type of boat you go out on and drink until the sun rises up lol. Thatâs what party boats are for and this boat doesnât cater to that type of crowd. They keep a strict alcohol policy of no hard liquor, so it doesnât turn into a party boat scene. This boat is well organized and run in a professional manner. These captains will put you on the fish and have a few laughs with you while you are doing it. Thatâs how it used to be and it is good to see they are bringing this back to...
Read moreWent out last week and this is hands down the best boat I have ever been on out of Sheepshead. Evening Stripers trip is limited to 15 people and there is a ton of space for everyone. The deckhands were incredibly professional, nice, and did a great job. They were always helping out whether you were a complete newbie like my nephew and brother-in-law, or whether you knew what you were doing. The deckhands even roate people around the boat so everyone gets a turn at the back of the boat (although there is plenty of room to fish wherever you are due to the limited number they take). The boat limited on bass and there were ton of bluefish as well. Everyone went home with a bass. Great night fishing, and totally worth the extra $20 or so they charge over the...
