Skillman Barber Shop — Attraction in New York

What a lovely surprise! Often "Under New Management" means very little. A cosmetic change, or one person steps back but is still there, or some chain has moved in.

Luckily, that is not the case at Skillman Barber Shop.

First, I got a great haircut there. Go. Try it. Oksana, the new proprieter, cut my hair so easily, effortlessly, and without drama (I went from pretty long to corporate friendly) that even if the place had it's old "awkward, but I have no idea why it feels this way" vibe, I would come back.

But the place has lost that quiet uncomfortableness. It is a new era. And miraculously, they have left the barber shop look of the place intact. I want to encourage my friends to come and have a barbershop hangout while we get haircuts.

Such a pleasure to have a local barber and shop, owned and worked by a hardworking proprieter. Sunnyside wins! You should try this...

I highly recommend Izzy at Skillman Barbershop (from Kiddie Cutz)! My 2-year-old son is very sensory sensitive and haircuts used to be a struggle—lots of tears and stress. Since we started seeing Izzy, everything has changed. She is calm, patient, and so gentle with him that he no longer cries during haircuts.

Izzy truly has a gift with children, especially those with autism (ASD), sensory sensitivities, or even just little ones who are afraid of haircuts. She takes her time, creates a soothing environment, and makes the whole experience so much easier for both the child and the parent.

All the reviews on here about Izzy are absolutely true. I do not know how I missed this her all these years when my kiddos needed a haircut. I went to so many different places just to realize the best place was in our neighborhood. I will never go anywhere else again! My kids hated getting haircuts in the past but had no issues when it came to Izzy. There is just something about her that makes my kids comfortable with her.

Izzy is super welcoming, takes her time, very meticulous to ensure a nice cut and extremely patient with my kids.

I highly recommend Izzy for any children’s hair cuts. I will be coming here for as long as my kids need a nice cut.
