Haven't had good experiences with some of the librarians here lately. One librarian (Asian woman) was very rude when I had to ask her for help when signing up for a computer. I hadn't been here in months so I didn't know that the Teens computers had limited seats. I was put in the waiting list because the 2 PCs that were working were already occupied. It literally took her seconds to remove me from the waiting list but she gave me an attitude and said I should have signed up for the Adults computers instead. I thought it's okay to sign up for either as long as it's not after school hours?
After that experience, I try to avoid asking for help. This time, the printer wasn't working. Even though there is a sign that says to ask a librarian, I've been able to clear paper jams before. I was close to fixing it when a librarian (black woman with glasses) came over and finished fixing it but she sounded condescending and unfriendly. At the end, she did say that she didn't mean to upset me but if that were true she wouldn't be talking to me like that in the first place.
However, I do appreciate one librarian who helped me sometime in between these encounters. He noticed that I was struggling with a PC (it had technical issues that I couldn't resolve) and he proactively came over and helped me in a nice, positive way. He's the reason why I'm not giving a...
Read moreWhile it is very nice that people volunteer their time to put on the Wednesday 10:15am storytime at Woodside library, the current woman should NOT be teaching children. The class is for Toddlers 1-3 years old (note: active crawlers and walkers). She spends much of her time scolding moms and nannies for not keeping their children on their laps. This does not provide a positive environment for the children and actually makes my son NOT want to pay attention to the music and stories as he's spending all of his energy trying to wriggle off my lap. Given my whole goal is that he be allowed space to roam and then find interest himself in the music and stories himself - which is exactly the experience we have each week at Sunnyside library - we will NOT be returning here. We love Sunnyside library and can't believe how two such 180 degree opposite experiences can be possible in the same neighborhood.
When I was scolded this past Wednesday for not keeping him on my lap I said loudly 'Sure, it's totally realistic to expect toddlers to sit still and not crawl around' multiple moms and nannies came up to me after the class and told me their own horror stories of what the female teacher on Wednesdays at 10:15 said to them and their children.
There must be a better...

I've never had a problem with the staff here until this encounter.... and I've been going to this library since I was a kid. If a librarian doesn't even want to do something so easy/simple (and it's their job to help visitors), maybe they shouldn't work...
