This park is meant for either, drivers or locals. The entrance to the park was underwhelming. To enter, you walk/drive through a narrow road right beside the lirr tracks. It could be an easy miss if you're a newcomer like me (unless you navigate through gmaps). Once you're at the parking lot, your introduced to a few private houses, and three or four trails beside the roadbed. An odd layout but, it's not a huge issue to worry for. My main issue to this park is figuring where the visitor center is. I would've expected it to be in the vicinity of the parking lot but, all I see are private homes. Read moreI never knew it existed until I was looking at nature preserves and hiking on long island. I take the train from little neck almost weekly. I decided to get to the train early today. I did the two closest trails to the station they were short but it was nice. I wouldn't drive next to the preserve park on the street either right past or before the station on little neck parkway. The road to the trail just north of the station is dangerous and shouldn't be two way. Very narrow and curvy. I can see this being a good day trip from the city city...
Read moreI love any place where I can find strange bits of nature, and animals like turtle and frogs, and trails are maintained. At the southern portion of the park, it is extremely narrow, and the trails cut through from one local street right to the next, so they're really short and quick. Some older trails appear to have been neglected/abandoned and are overgrown.
Further north, where my photos were taken at the pond, it's better. Next time I'll venture even further north, to where the Cove...
