Took a wonderful New Years Day NYC Park Ranger led hike that began and ended here. Extremely knowledgeable park rangers (as usual). Had never been in this part of the park before. Learned that rangers patrol on horses here who also wear badges, many of the paths are of permeable gravel unlike in very similar Inwood Hill Park where they are paved, protruding rocks on the cross country trail are painted white or orange for visibility, the Van Cortlandt family used to be buried here at the Vault, a road was planned north of the Henry Hudson and infrastructure such as fire hydrants were installed to support it but it never came to be done, areas are being restored but invasive garlic mustard is...
