What I really objected to at Jake's Steakhouse was the price relative to the quality of the food and service. To start with, it was a valet parking situation and there was no statement of charges. When we picked up the car the valet just handed us the keys expecting a tip. When we entered the bar/restaurant, dress was casual, staff was friendly, but the people behind us didn't feel like waiting assuming we didn't have a reservation. So, there must be a problem with the reservation service as our reservation was held in a Long Island location erroneously we were later told. Fortunately they had a table. The table was by a large window in which there was no room to get around and the headroom was low as well. We had to climb three flights of stairs and this was for a woman with cancer, osteoporosis and a small child as well as another woman with mobility issues. They had open booths but one wasn't offered. I did not feel comfortable. The waiter was friendly but inattentive except at the start. There was a bus staff and the reason they got 25% was because the bus stop was attentive and my son has worked in many restaurants in the past. The total bill was $400 for four adults and a small child whose meal they forgot entirely. We had to order it again when the main entrees arrived. The burger was brought on an English muffin and they told him that's all they had-he was four years old, but the french fries were good. The main dish was the filet mignon with the lobster tail and the lobster tail in this case was much better than the steak. Even though the steak was prepared correctly it was also bland. It was not delicious at all. All the sides were a la carte and the spinach was mediocre. The asparagus was cooked properly but I noticed there was no seasoning or taste to any of these vegetables. Two orders of the salmon and a pasta dish with chicken we're disappointing although the salmon was cooked correctly the beurre blanc sauce with mushrooms and lemon was foul. NO Broccoli or couscous accompanied the salmon even though it was printed on the menu. The crab appetizer was boiled on a small tiny bit of lettuce, perhaps one ounce of crab claw served with a lid of cocktail sauce and another lid of yellowed aioli. I noticed the aioli was smeared on the side of the plate. I'm not sure if they were old but they didn't add a good flavor and I tried both and they were of poor or non-existent flavor. The containers were nearly too small to dip and the display of the food was not artful. Frankly I just was thinking that it was diner food. Aside from refilling the waters as they went around the table periodically, removing dishes awkwardly, and too early, some seemed to have an unprofessional attitude. The staff was attentive however, and accommodating when asked. The mushrooms and onions were sauteed together and didn't taste very good. I would say all of the food was cooked in a watery base, had very little to no flavor, and was un expectedly lacking any good taste or finesse. For all the world I could have sworn I was eating in a rest home. I would never go there again and felt that a $400 price tag on the meal above described was ridiculous! Larcenous! Incredibly disappointing especially since we had invited an old friend that I had not seen in a long time and while she made it all the way upstairs she had trouble getting downstairs. The staff was very helpful. Edible but not a good experience and one that I would never leave to chance again! What happened to the rest of...
Read moreI've never had such a horrible experience at any restaurant as I had at Jake's Steakhouse. Their hostess first took us to the wrong table (we were a party of 6 being taken to a table for 12). Obviously, that was the wrong table, and we had to go back to the bar area while she figured out where we were supposed to be, which turned out to be in the bar area. If we had sat at that table, we would've been surrounded by about 20 people standing over us. We asked if if we could have another table, and we would prefer upstairs. She figured it out and took us to the new table. We were accommodated. We thanked her and thought that was the end. After about 5 minutes, the general manager Jim Downey, then came to our table and scolded us (in a dining room full of patrons), pointing his finger in our faces because their hostess was crying (he said we were mean to her). He said, "I'm glad you got what you wanted, but we shouldn't make any of his staff members cry, and if we ever cause that to happen again, we were no longer welcome to come back." I asked why she was crying because we weren't mean to her, nor did we yell at her or make a scene. All we did was ask to sit at another table because we were going to be uncomfortable at that original table. We walked out. Plain and simple. There are lots of other places to spend our hard earned money. Who comes up to a seated table and starts yelling at the customers? Disrespectful and uncalled for. You should get the full story before you yell at good paying customers. Will never go back again. As a side note, they shouldn't give you a drink menu (which is so overpriced) if they don't have the alcohol to make the drinks. We had 6 basic drinks, which cost us over $120, and we never got...
Read moreBEWARE!!!!! Go here if you want mediocre food but more importantly POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! BENJAMINS has tastier options with quality customer service! The baldheaded Manger on duty 10/14/23, was not only a racist prick but has zero knowledge of customer service. Storytime: So we went to JS, collect our ticket from valet and thought the night would have ended with good food , service and laughter!!! righ Nope not here. We finally found the vehicle ourselfves the same place we left it 2hrs prior with the tag on the dashboard, engine running, keys inside. After bringing this unacceptable situation to the MOD, his response was, " I'm sorry but the silver lining is that you found your car and if you want, I can give you their manager as they are a "3rd party" company." Now excuse us? We came to dine at JS, take accountability Sir!! They valet your guest!! Don't distance JS from this situation when the valet is only for JS's guest!
