Went here last night for the final time. Left disappointed, hungry, and $60 poorer. When I walked in, I was greeted by a sign warning me that food supplier costs have increased, so they had to slightly increase their prices. I should have paid closer attention to that warning, because to call those increases modest is the understatement of the century. But, we ventured in anyway. Sat down, and they brought us our typical homemade chips and salsa, which, as always, were excellent. Then we looked at the menu, which we noticed right away was significantly scaled back from our last visit, and everything was way more expensive. For example, as thirsty as I was, I had to stick with water, because I could not bring myself to pay $5 for a glass of soda with no refills. We ordered a guacamole for the table, and two burritos Colorado. We waited a very long time for our food. The guacamole finally came out. I paid $15 for this, and what I got was a palm-sized bowl that was half full of diced tomatoes, and the other half guacamole. As if the portion size wasn't disappointing enough, I dipped the chip and was overcome by the smell of lime juice. Should've realized that I shouldn't go any further, but against my better judgment, I went for it, and to the surprise of nobody, all I tasted was lime. I thought maybe I would acquire the taste, so I tried it on a few more chips, but it was not edible to me, so I let my wife have the rest. Finally our burritos came out. Now, while these were EXCELLENT, I wouldn't exactly call them burritos, and I certainly wouldn't say that they were worth $19 each for such a small portion. The steak inside was perfectly cooked, but they were a little stingy with the cheese poured over the burrito. It looked like they just grabbed a fingerful of shredded cheese, threw it on top, and good enough. After finishing my entree and realizing that this was not going to hold me over for the night, and calculating the bill in my mind realizing that this was going to hurt, I decided that I would not be returning again as the portion size, food quality, and menu options had decreased, with a sharp increase in prices. We made the decision to order our fried ice cream as a goodbye to this place, and even that left me disappointed. They used to put fresh cherries on the plate as garnish, no more. They used to put caramel and raspberry syrup under the ice cream, this time they inexplicably added chocolate syrup too, which was enough to make me not like it anymore. The fried shell under the ice cream used to be easy enough to break with just the spoon, but this time, it seemed that the shell was undercooked and doughy, and it was significantly harder to break. After finally managing to crack off a piece of the shell, at which point our ice cream had mostly turned into milk soup, I gave it a taste and the massive flavor clash left me unable to take another bite, only cementing my decision to never return.
It saddens my horribly to leave this review, and to see what this restaurant has become, as this was a regular spot for me and my wife. The food was always stellar, the prices were fair, and we never left hungry. Unfortunately, all of those pros were reversed on me, and I ended up paying about $60 for a meal that I was just not satisfied with. So as I said, I won't be returning. Everything has changed...
Read moreI asked for jalapeños with my meal, I was charged two dollars ( when did Mexican restaurant start charging for jalapeños)? When I called to place another order I let them know that I did not receive my jalapeños that I was charged for, they wanted to fight me about them and then said they would include them In my order, this time. I go pick up my overpriced food and they literally have me three jalapenos. Their credit card machine was not working and I was asked to go and get cash, I walked to this location and I am six months pregnant, no way I'm walking back home and back to the restaurant because their stuff isn't working. Then I'm asked to use their ATM that charges and extra three dollars. You want me to pay an extra there dollars for your downfall but want to give me three slices of jalapeños? Absolutely not. I sat and waited for their system to be fixed, thirty minutes. Not an offer for a cup of water, nothing. Terrible service, food is not worth the price, I...
Read moreI enjoyed this place very much!
I had very basic food... ground beef hardshell tacos. What I really liked about their tacos was that they offer you a choice of having them served American style (lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, etc) or Mexican style with meat and cilantro. Mexican style is exactly the way I would have ordered it had they not given me the choice. I've never been in a Mexican / Tex-Mex restaurant in New York that gave me the choice. I was very impressed with that.
I had the ginger margherita that was delish! My friend had chicken soup that she raved about long after we were gone and a salad we shared and both loved.
It was a lively crowd. All the tables with filled with Latin locals. It's an excellent sign when it comes to a restaurant serving Latin food. The DJ had us up dancing the night away.
Great crowd, great service, terrific food. I will...
