Verni’s Garden Center — Attraction in New York

An old style garden center. Competitively priced well stocked shelves. Kind of a fun place to visit if you are into gardening as I am. I get the impression that this garden center has been here since the stone age, err at least the 1980's I think. This is the type of establishment that you can feel comfortable walking into with a dead bug, and ask the folks there what it is, and how to deal with it. While Home Depot or Lowes might "Kick off the Spring sales on garden and potting soil", They will never be able to offer the free advice that a real garden center has to offer. So if your in the area (LGA, Bulova, Etc...) and enjoy gardening, a stop at Vernies is well...

This business, IMHO, deserves a way higher rating on Google reviews.

I worked in plant nurseries for 3 years and this place is a traditional setup that offers far better value for 💰 than at a big box garden centre. The staff are knowledgeable and personable. The plants are cheaper, with more variety and in better shape. Way better selection of soil amendments like compost, mulch, etc. and they have lovely trees. Very nice pottery selection too.

Owner is rude and has overpriced item from the stuff I seen outside. Closing time shows 4:30pm and I was outside the shop 4:20 and was told they are closed while there is a sign outside saying they close 4:30.
