You gonna get the full Staten Island experience 🤣🤣🤣 it was SO HOOD AND RAN DOWN LAWD!! A Thursday morning at 930 am in early February (black history month at that) and there were drug dealers and all types of dudes just standing around in front of the mural. I turned the block to come around and they had all disappeared. Maybe they thought I was police.
I DO NOT recommend going to this alone or at night or by bus. Luckily I drove my own vehicle and I can carry protection legally. I tried to QUICKLY take as many pictures as I could, and then dudes started coming back to their posts, making comments and giving me dirty looks. Asking me what I was looking for🙄😒 like they couldn't see what I was there for.
It's super hard to access due to the location, local population and cars parked in the way and almost impossible to get one good shot of the mural. It finally became too unsafe for me to stay as more men kept showing up and making comments. I drove from Brooklyn and was hoping to take lots of professional photos, videos, and really analyze the details and artistry etc like I do all around the city, but I could not stay there beyond 5 minutes. Definitely don't bring the family! Sheesh it was ROUGH!!!!
Hurt my heart to give this 4 stars, cause Wu-Tang are like the Beatles to me. I understand why their music was so gritty and grimey now. I did take a trip over to Stapleton & Park Hill as well. Same vibes. No one should have to live like that. I pray black people can get out of the hood and into good communities and homes. No child should live in that environment.
Peace to the God's and...
Read moreGo see it!! It's a MASTERPIECE!!! We're from Seattle! We took the ferry from the city (Manhattan), then a quick train ride and a short walk to the mural. Our trip felt complete after seeing this mural. It was number 1 on my list, and I'm so thrilled we got to see it. It's truly phenomenal! I highly recommend planning a trip to Staten Island to see it if you're a big fan like myself....
