LOVE this place! You’ll have to come during the weekday all you can eat buffet because wow, the food is worth it and you’ll get an amazing deal for it at just $14.95!
My coworker and I decided to come here for lunch one day because we were craving chicken tikka masala and the Indian restaurant near UC Irvine was relatively mediocre. We were super excited to find this restaurant off Pacific Coast Highway so we ventured out to try it.
The lunch buffet differs daily but the chicken tikka masala is always served Monday, Wednesday, and friday. Depending on the day you go, the other offerings will vary but you will only get 3 different entrees to choose from along with rice. I cannot remember what other entrees they had on a Friday but I believe paneer was one of them.
Parking at this restaurant is pretty slim. There’s street parking off PCH and a very tiny parking lot that is free. The restaurant is very small and it’s usually never busy when we go, but honestly I prefer it that way. The lighting, however, is a bit dim during lunch time and they don’t use air conditioning for those who get a little warm without it. The windows are wide open to let the breeze come in.
APPETIZERS Side salad and garlic naan — these were both so delicious! The salad comes with a sort of vinegar dressing (not vinaigrette) and the garlic naan is made fresh to order. Seriously, I would load up on this if I could!
ENTREES Chicken tikka masala — O M G amazing!!! Seriously one of the best I have ever had. Hands down. The sauce is the perfect amount of mild spice and the chicken is plump and juicy. Every bite is like heaven.
Paneer — I had never had this before but I thought it was absolutely delicious. I love the ginger as well cuz it gives it a bit of a kick.
DESSERT Rice pudding — also delicious and comes with the buffet, so it is complimentary!
Overall, I had such a pleasant experience here and thought it was really sweet that the owner herself came out to ask how the food was. I will definitely be returning and am glad that I have finally found the best Indian restaurant in...
Read moreIt is almost intimidating to give below average review to this place due to its popularity and hype, or I would say over hyped. We tried this place few years ago and didn't like it. We wanted to give it another try, given it's popularity. I am genuinely not sure how this restaurant gained fame for taste and quality. Branzino was chewy, dry, tasted stale. Spring dosa and sambar were good but not great. Palak paneer was below average. Kerela chicken curry was gross. It was tasteless, looked gross, chicken smelled and tasted gross. It was so disappointing. Udupi Palace in Artesia wins by 100 folds in terms of quality, taste, and freshness. It's just too far with only vegetarian options, which is why we wanted to try Mayura again. With overwhelming amount of celebrity pictures from their visit to this place and over hype and review, this place in my opinion is misleading public on how good food should taste. Service was also bad. When we went, there were barely 2-3 tables occupied in over 1200 sq ft floor. We asked for hot water multiple times and finally got after 30 min. Naan came half way after the food was done. It had 0 butter/oil. The most dry Naan ever. None of liked the food or service, because they simply were not good. We rather drive all the way to Udupi Palace to enjoy warm, fresh, tasty South Indian food. Never going back or recommending to...
Read moreHello,
We are new in SOCAL and were exploring Indian restaurants. We were all excited about Mayur based on it's location and the reviews we read. However, the excitement dropped the moment when we walked in for lunch at about 12:15 pm. Well, the reason is this. If you walk in into restaurant at peak lunch hours, only to know, you are the first customer, it tells you something. However, we decided to give it a try. The next disappointment came in with the fact that it was not a buffet. Kind of unusual for Indian restaurants.(I Admit, we missed this when we just glanced through menu). Third, if it is not a buffet, one would expect the portions to be large enough for an individual. I was not happy to receive one small naan(1/4 of a full naan) and single curry for 15$. The server was unkind enough to point out this is all you get in not-so-polite way. One last point, the curry did not have that authentic Indian flavor that I have come to expect from any good restaurant as an Indian myself. I have never felt the need to post such review for any restaurant in many years. All in all, folks from my social circle are not...
