Big Creek Park — Attraction in Newport

This park is away from the Beach but has an "Ocean to Bay Trail" that takes you along Big Creek to the Beach, to access this Trail go back out the entrance to the park and North across the bridge - the trail path is located on the Left (West) before you get to the 1st street. There are numerous walking paths within this park along with a playground, horseshoe pit (bring your own horseshoes) and a big field. Nice out of the way city park....good sized field for activities. BBQ cooker, although I would suggest to being your own. Plenty of covered sitting! Outhouse, garbage receptacle. Small creek (no swimming), great trail to the water tower and beyond! No overnight, closes at dusk. Plenty of walking opportunities, including to the beach or reservoir. Great place to walk your dog. Fishing and non motorized (fuel), boating nearby....

This hike was just ok. First of all, right from the beginning you going straight up for awhile. Long enough to make you stop and catch your breath. Lots of insects flying around too. If it's a sunny day, it can get rather hot in there. Watch your step coming back down this steep uphill climb for there are big loose rocks under foot. Overall, good for some heart...
