Auburndale Park — Attraction in Newton

A hidden gem of a playground, picnic, and exercise spot along the Charles River, with clean public bathrooms and hand washing sinks, a big sand pit and toys. All looking out to the Charles River but at a distance that feels safe (with watching), with birds chirping away. Playground: A big Robinson Crusoe-ish play structure over wood chips for bigger kids with climbing, rope bridge, slides. A littler kid play structure with smaller slides, ramps, and fixed moving toys. A 4-swing set. A standalone big slide. Plenty of seating. Eating: A huge picnic area with around 25 picnic tables, a big raised metal fire pit, and public restrooms. Parking: Huge parking lot (free) with 5 handicapped spaces with what looks liked plenty of room for a wheelchair (or 2) to access the park via two flat gravel trails. Exercise: a 2 basket shaded basketball court, tennis court, big baseball field, and trail exercise structures (including arm and foot cycles - that's something fancy I've never seen at a park before, who needs a gym?). Great and spacious park for dog walks and playing. We found a bench and enjoyed the sunshine and passing dogs. A few pieces of exercise equipment available. Something for everyone We've rented tables for birthday parties. The children can play in the field or playground while the parents can easily see them move from place to place.
