Burton Farms General Store — Attraction in Newton

My first visit there since it used to be Genes Produce. This place has sooo much more than the produce stand used to be. The building has been refinished inside and looks super clean and very nice!! I'm assuming this is a family owned business. We were told they had 80 ish acres of farming land in Lincoln County, NC. There are soooooo many things to select from : HUGE variety of really fresh produce, green peanuts, farm fresh brown eggs by flats, livermush, a variety of cheeses, fresh farm picked blueberries and strawberries that are breathtaking when you open the entrance door, a ton of canned jams and jellies, pickled eggs, fresh picked GREEN tomatoes for us fried green tomato lovers, plus the breading to fry them in can be purchased as well. Then there are watermelons, cantaloupes, homemade cakes, knick-knacks, personal gifts,.... the list goes on and on....as well as Adirondack chairs of many colors, handmade swings from logs, gorgeous hanging baskets, and much much more to see. We must not forget to mention the friendly atmosphere and prompt help when needed...YOU MUST PAY...

My sweet husband purchased me 2 rocking chairs the week of Mother’s Day. On the morning of Mother’s day, he unloaded them from the truck and noticed some black and red spots on them. As he began to clean them, he noticed a crack in one of the arms. He took the chairs back to Burton’s to exchange them and they were out so he requested a refund in the amount of $535. They refused to refund him, accusing him of possibly doing the destruction himself! There was no discussion of “no refunds” when he purchased them. As a middle class family, $535 is a lot of hard work for us and we do not take it lightly when we feel as though we’ve been taken advantage of. We have been long time customers of Burton’s. We have always supported local and were always willing to pay a little more to support a small business. This behavior proves they are not in it for the customer, but are money hungry and have poor customer service. It’s mind boggling to me that he accused my husband of damaging my Mother’s Day gift. Sadly, they’ve lost all future business with our family. I would not recommend doing...

The place is great but the so called manager not so much. The cucumbers bad 2 difference prices. I got mine for the cheaper price but she tried to charge my mom and aunt the higher price and argued with them saying that the price was wrong and changed it in front of us saying it doesn't say it anymore and refused to give the cheaper price. I understand people make mistakes but it was very rude and unprofessional for her to argue like that and refuse to give the right price. She costed the company atleast $30 with one customer. The business will not last long with her...
