Mulan Chinese Gourmet — Restaurant in Newton

I’m giving this restaurant only one star because of the woman that answered the phone and works in the front. I called solely to provide feedback on the Mongolian beef I ordered. It was almost completely without beef. I had never seen anything like it. I thought a mistake had been made in preparing it. When I tried to convey my thoughts to the girl on the phone, she became very aggressive and told me that she knew it was a lot of beef in there. After a 3 minute verbal assault about how there was a lot of beef in my food, she then decided that the dish was scant on beef because of its cost. She wanted to know how I could expect beef because it costs so much and they only charge 5.78 for the meal. To me, if it’s called Mongolian beef, people probably expect to see beef. She is extremely rude. Apparently, they do not welcome feedback. I was shocked because she was very pleasant until something went wrong. Maybe she will grow up and learn how to treat people one day and hopefully try to be a little polite to the next person. My family and I have been eating here for years now. But now, during QUARANTINE, they impressed us more than ever. Don't get me wrong, the food is always great, just look at their reviews. But tonight was extra great. We ordered coconut chicken, sesame chicken, and sweet n sour chicken. Plus 2 egg rolls and the potstickers appetizer. Everything was so full of flavor, the sauces fresh and delicious, and so much we can't eat it all. And I only spent $32. Please support this local restaurant during this difficult time and when the world opens back up!

Several months later...... This is still, hands down, the very best of Chinese in the whole area! I would go so far as to say the best anywhere for take out! The woman who owns Mulan and her daughters are gems! If they happen to miss something on your order they are so apologetic, which makes me feel bad because mistakes are made and it's no big deal, but to her it is a big deal. She strives for perfection and never settles for a guest leaving unsatisfied. Well I've never been unsatisfied. I wish this restaurant all the best for many decades to come! One thing that I feel is very disrespectful and makes me feel uncomfortable is when you go to a restaurant and the people start talking in their native language, knowing you don’t know what they are saying and one top of that have a sneaky smile. Like, are you talking me and trying to cheat me on my food??? This is exactly the experience I had today. Plus the 3 times I have went to the place they do try to cheat you because they will automatically charge you for a large purchase without asking you what size you would like. I’m a from believer in treat people the way you want to be treated. I hate when people try to get over on you!! Also I ask for a refill on the water and they gave me water with no ice and made me feel like they was rushing me out the door. My experience at the place wasn’t pleasant!!
