What a great place to visit - this is a fully stocked, old fashioned fruit and vegetable market… and so much more! We had a hankering for some grapes and have been disappointed by the quality in all the stores, including the local farmers markets. Then we remembered Gentiles Market. We used to live closer and shopped at Gentiles for years but haven’t been back in a while due to distance. But we thought of them because we remembered that the quality of their produce never lets us down. It was so worth the extra drive… plump, firm, delicious, green and red grapes! It’s the little things that make us happy. And the owners are a class act. Our GPS estimated that we’d arrive a few minutes after closing time so we called from the road and let them know we might arrive a few minutes after closing. They assured us they'd stay open for our visit. When we arrived they let us walk around and choose our items without a rush. This is a nice family run business and a gem of a market. The quality of produce is top notch. We...
Read moreI have a health eating lifestyle and I know it can be hard to find a good produce market. Gentile's Fruit Market is the best produce market around the Newtown Square / Media area. It's open year round, better prices than local supermarkets, and generally very high-quality produce.
For a produce market, it really isn't lacking anything unless you are trying to cook an ethnic food (e.g., Indian, Vietnamese, Mexican) that requires a somewhat unusual ingredient. Perfectly understandable. Even then, they might have as they do carry some Asian/Latin vegetables/fruits although it isn't a wide selection.
The only negative is that it gets really crowded and the parking lot is too small. It gets incredibly crowded on a Sat./Sun. after 10 AM and stays that way until the afternoon. The selection of produce by mid-afternoon can get a bit lean too as they often either run low on certain items or...
Read moreHands down the best produce hut in Delco. It's family run and has been there for decades, so they have a good hookup with distributors and you can even ask to buy crates of things if you need volume. Pricing has gotten a little more expensive than previously with inflation, but you can still pick your own produce from piles instead of being given pre-bagged assortments like produce junction, and the quality is overall more consistent. In the summer they also have plants for very affordable pricing, and pumpkins and squash in the fall. Parking can get a little difficult at peak hours--there's extra parking across the street in front of the office building that's not super apparent from the front view...
