14May: WF refunded my deposit; despite the updates that this contractor provided to the BBB. The credit cleared and can only be lifted if he provides proof that he completed the work; my photos clearly show he did not do so.
The job quoted by Sandman was not completed. To date, I have paid $13,500 and have the interior of the house painted and two hung TVs (one with a new receiver and subwoofer) to show for it. The key expense of the job, the kitchen remodel, was left incompelte despite several contacts to the contractor to establish a timeline to complete work. After confirming that he would not be returning to finish work, I had the remainder of the job bid by new contractors and I have been informed that the tile selected should not be grouted due to its texture (textured marble) and the entire wall he did complete needs to be taken down. This will result in more demo -- to remove the placed tiles that have spacers, new drywall and new special order tile and install costs.
At this point in time, I have asked that he return the calls of my credit card holder to agree to the return of my $5k deposit so I can attempt to salvage the dented appliances and incomplete work which includes hanging wires left in basement. The appliance damages are completely unacceptalbe. For some reason, my new appliances were placed months before the demo work began and have been left dented and dinged. Brand new appliances; ruined. You should not install appliances until demo and install is complete...
In addition to the above costs and damages, I have also had to pay haulers to come and remove debris (old dishwasher) and rubbish left (dry wall, rusted metal materials and buckets of water) on a city owned lot by the contractor.
This job has gone on for almost 5 months -- 5 months of late arrivals (after 10am) and work being done well into the evening --as late as 9pm some nights, and the house is still unfinished. I am very disappointed not just because of the work that was not completed, but more so by his absolute refusal to return any calls, emails or texts messages.
To date, I have received one text message to my requests for an arrival time and confirmation that he would complete the job that stated: 'having enormous anxiety about returning there' That was the only response I received; that is how he ended the job. No apology or offer to make this right.
If my deposit is not returned a BBB complaint will be filed. I have spent $13,500 and my house is going to have more demo...and require much more work.
As a side note, when he removed my ADT dashboard from the wall during demo, he invalidated my warranty; causing me much grief and more money when dealing with ADT. I did not share this with him until recently becuase every time I tried to have an adult conversation about issues, he would shut down and I needed the job to keep moving. I have also had to have my HVAC cleaned out twice from drywall and joint compound dust which cost $98 per clean.
All I am asking for now is 1.) return of my deposit -- $5k; 2.) retain the rest of the amount due so I can do as he instructed me via text when I alerted him to the fact that the 3rd appliance had been damaged which said: "tell you what, keep the money you owe me, and buy yourself new appliances"...
I am hopeful that my deposit will be returned so I can finish this job and my family and friends -- who have already delayed their trip 3 times, can visit. 5+ months for new marble tile, painting and electronic work is really unheard of. Hopefully he will do the right and honest thing and return my deposit as the damages I have had to deal with are very costly... and I'm not as wealthy as his other clients, so this is a huge financial burden for me.
I'm just a single home owner trying to rehab my home. This is not disposable income for me. This was a huge project for me -- one that I saved funds for many months to cover. I am really left in a bad spot and need the deposit returned so I can...
Read moreAs an avid sports fan I’ve always wanted a multiple TVs setup. Thanks to Sherrod I was able to achieve this. My original plan was to put two 49” TVs one on each side of my already mounted 75”. Each tv would have its own cable box so I could watch three different games at one time. Sherrod came out and he measured and said there was plenty of space for that. He estimated it would be a 1 day to a 1 1/2 day project. Once my wonderful wife gave me the green light to go ahead with this project I called Verizon and order two more cable boxes. The boxes arrived on a Monday three days after I ordered them and I reached out Sherrod if he was able to start that day. He said he was able to. I was in charge of providing the TVs Sherrod would get everything else. I ended up headed to Delaware (tax free) and picking up two Sony 55” 900F. Sherrod arrived mid afternoon on Monday and started getting to work and he was there until about 10pm. He added three electrical outlets with spare cat 5 for future use or fail safe. Sherrod hung the two 55” and rehung the 75” that was done incorrectly by a big box company. Sherrod suggested mounting the Sony sound-bar that I already owned on the wall just below the already mounted Sony Bravia 75” 940E would give it a much cleaner look. We changed out the wall mount on the 75” to be the same as the new 55”s so it would be a flush look all the way across. Just like any project there are some obstacles and this was no exception and Sherrod knocked all curveballs out of the park. Because the basement was finished the only practical way to get the wires concealed in the wall was to make a 10” X 2.5” incision which would was eventually patched up and painted to match existing paint on wall. The entire job took 2 1/2 days to finish and I am extremely satisfied with everything. Sherrod arrived when he said he would. Sherrod was very easy to work with. I would recommend Sherrod to anyone who is looking to upgrade their tv viewing...
Read moreSherrod has installed many different systems in my home. He installed a multiple camera system covering the entire exterior of my home. I can keep an eye on my property from 3000 miles away either on my phone or laptop. Amazing system! I actually originally contacted him concerning the installation of a home theatre system. His knowledge is unbelievable concerning all of the available options and the best equipment on the market. I ended up with two home theatre systems, a six zone Sonos music system that I can listen to music anywhere in the house with just a touch on my phone. The sound is amazing. He installed TV's incorporated into my bathroom mirrors so I can watch the weather when I am getting ready in the morning. His work ethic and skill go above and beyond. Not only did I gain a contractor that I have confidence in, but I...
