This place is new so I gave them a try. It was the worst experience I’ve ever had. The manager is this woman who is so aggressive and rude. I had a manicure and an upgraded pedicure but my pedicure wasn’t enjoyable at all and my nail got cut on the side where the chunk of nail is now missing . The nail tech was very nice and kept apologizing but the manager was so aggressive and had the audacity to charge me for a service I didn’t even receive on my feet. My cuticles didn’t get cut, the bottom of my feet still had callus build up, and the upgraded foot massage that I never received. When I went to check out I went to do Apple Pay but I just bought my new iPhone and I realized I didn’t re-link my credit cards to my Apple Pay so my mom paid for me with her platinum American Express. When I called in to speak to the owner the manager said he’s not available and doesn’t care but she said to come in and she’d refund me. She claimed she didn’t know how to do it via phone which is concerning because I own a storefront and with a POS system you simply cancel out the transaction or click refund on the specific transaction. Me and my mom went in and this same manager wouldn’t “deal with my mom” so I spoke with her and handed the same AMEX. She was stalling and said “if you can’t afford it don’t come in here.” I was beyond insulted but it wasn’t worth it to reason with her. I could buy that nail salon 30x over if I wanted. Money wasn’t the issue, it was the principal and how poorly she handled what was their mistake. She saw my car double parked in front and somehow thought it was appropriate to mention how she has a nice car too. I told her it’s concerning how aggressive she is towards me in our society today and that I’d turn to Google and write a review to let everyone know because this is horrible. She told me if I go to Google her attorney would come after me. I said this is ridiculous please just give me a receipt of the refund. I also mentioned that my family is full of attorneys for over 4 decades with their law firms and that I’m entitled to write a review on google because that’s what it is for. She failed to produce a receipt and that is when I asked her to show me the refund. She yelled and told me I can’t take a picture of her screen even though it was solely the refund receipt. Then I asked to see the screen and walked her through how to issue a refund receipt because again, as a business owner with a storefront in Gold Coast Chicago, it’s very simple on any POS system to issue a refund receipt. I texted it to myself. I told her I’m not sure how they will last with how disrespectful and rude she is. She finally admitted it was a mistake and I said mistakes happen but how you chose to handle it was the issue. I will never return and I saw similar complaints from customers on the BBB then their response saying “this customer couldn’t afford it and lied for a refund” and it was a trend under their business so I’m sure the response to this review will be similar however it’s inaccurate and I can produce pictures of my toe and additional information to provide. The reason why I chose to tell my experience is because it was a major headache and unwanted chaos then I learned with my mom that the refund wasn’t a full refund and they shorted $15 dollars. It’s mind blowing that businesses like this exist. I’m appalled at how she spoke to me and no customer should ever feel the way I did in any business they choose to go to and expect to receive services then leave extremely let down, unhappy, and with complete and utter disappoint. I paid for my manicure because that’s the service I received. It was pretty simple from the get go that I should’ve never been charged for my pedicure. She was fighting me on a refund when that was the right thing to do all along. If she would’ve apologized from the beginning or offered to compensate me from the beginning, there wouldn’t have been any issues. Instead she said she would put a fake nail on my toenail lol. Read moreI recently moved to the Evanston from the SF Bay Area roughly 6 months ago. I honestly like to vend with independent nail artists of color but sometimes I need a good back up. This was one of those times. With research I chose Rock Star Nails & Spa at Skokie because I saw photos close to my preferred choice of nails. The salon was beautiful, clean, and customer service was somewhat excellent. I was offered beverages and with any appointment, I didn't wait more than 5 mins to be seated and for my services to begin - both at the same time. I was getting a gel full set and aromatherapy gel pedicure. T (male, tattoos, great hair) did my XL curved full set and a decent job (never did curved nails before and I really wanted to get creative with him but he already seemed stressed about the length and shape so I keep it basic). My pedicure was where my anxiety fully kicked in. Already uncomfortable because EVERY nail technician in the spa came over to my chair (where I'm trying to relax, I was off BOTH my jobs today- this was my ME TIME) to make comments about my preference for nails. Literally everyone, no other customer was bothered. One technician came over and didn't even greet me and just said, "Too long" and walked off... Back to the pedicure, It was a lovely service but the work was probably the worst gel pedi's I ever had in my life. Firstly I asked for the same color on my nails to be put on my toes, the lady put white (the color I had before) , then I asked for a squared shape (toenails were already PRE SHAPED) and literally, she rounds some out, makes one big toe diagonal and there's absolutely no consistency in shape with the rest. I wanted to cry so bad and I asked for her nail file to fix it myself but there was no fixing them. Given, she was polite and I appreciated her changing my polish to match my nails, I was already over the experience. 3 stars not because the place isn't nice or I didn't feel welcomed but 3 stars because if you're a unique person, with specific preferences and particular yet passionate about your nail shape, style, creativity, nail art AND don't want feel like uncomfortable because of those preferences this isn't the place for that. It gives "cute but basic" like Old Navy ya know? Then again, this was just my experience...
Read moreI recently came over the weekend to get my nails done. It was my first time at this location and honestly could have been a way better experience. I came in with my nail inspo for mani and pedi. Laura, at the front, kept moving me from one place to another when I already had my appointment in place (I had to wait even longer despite having scheduled a nail appointment). I presented very simple designs/art and it was shown to 4 nail techs and neither were able to do my simple butterfly design. Sy was the one who did my mani and he missed a couple crucial steps for my no chip (for example top coat!). My nail polish is polished with bubbles and my butterfly looks more like a cross. When I mentioned this, he joked and didn't fix it by redoing it as I'm paying a good price. When it came to my toes, I initially just wanted a classic pedi but was told that if I wanted a simple design, I had to get it done with no chip, which is odd because I do my own nails at times and have a lot of experience with nail art and type from other nail salons. I really would have wanted a better experience at Rock Star Nails & Spa...
UPDATE: Went back prior to my wedding ti get my wedding nails done with a design and color I was promised. I got french tips done and Tommy kept making his own prices randomly (different from what I was told on the designing and tips). He and Amy kept talking in their language and it made my moms and I uncomfortable. Tommy messed up a few times and half-assed it and Amy made random comments that just came off as rude to all of us. Linda took initiative and tried to fix my polish. My design was very simple (I've done that design before) and not sure why I was told "yes, we can definitely do this lacey and whispy design" and then so many mess ups occurred and was told many excuses by Tommy. My nailpolish (gel polish) started chipping the moment I went home. Absolutely rediculous. Paid a full price for no chip and french tips with designing for both mani and pedi and this was not even close to a good experience. This was supposed to be a wonderful experience and I chose this place for my special nails; had I known, I would have chosen some other better nail salon. Very disappointed and I don't think I'm recommending this nail spa to anyone,...
