The friendly crowd at Wizard's Asylum is what really makes the place go. I've really enjoyed my time I have spent there learning and getting better at Magic the Gathering. Having gone to a few different local stores, Wizard's really gives off the best vibe as somewhere to come and play. I've participated in quite a few events at Wizard's and they are always run crisply with great judging.
I would recommend Wizard's to anyone that's a local and looking for a way to spend a day playing a board or card game. There's always people there and always something to do.
Edit: Now that they have been at the new location, Wizard's Asylum is unparalleled in quality. Super friendly staff that don't stand over your back while you shop and very knowledgeable. The new location is about 4 times larger and there is so much room to play any game you want and not be in anyone's way. Even better is the entire wall of free game demos they have to play. I love going here and I still recommend it to anyone.
Additionally, there is no longer a shop cat so those with allergy worries don't have to worry about it.
Edit2: I have since moved away from Norman, Oklahoma. I can NOT find a card shop that is half as good as Wizard's Norman. it is impossible to find the family vibe that the shop offers as well as the basic necessities Bryan provides. A clean store, with decent prices, and he allows outside food and drink. Not to mention a massive collection of games to play for free with no pressure to buy them. This atmosphere is IMPOSSIBLE to find...
Read moreI'll start with the good; its a clean, well lit, relatively organized space. There's an adjacent gaming area with tables and light snack bar. They have a pretty extensive board game selection. Their MTG offerings are decent. From there its downhill. The selection is ramshackle. About 50% of the space is dedicated to Magic. There's sections for D&D (among other tabletop rpgs), graphic novels, models, and board games. With the exception of the board games each section is tiny. And the prices..oh boy. That leads me to the employees. They aren't the friendliest. Not rude just not welcoming. You get the vibe these folks are here to make money. Everything else is incidental. Overall the inventory is lacking, prices are high, and...
Read moreThis is the best store where I have played Magic The Gathering. My first time here was in 2009 and I have been coming sporadically through all these years. What I love most is how welcoming is the staff (particularly owner Bryan) and the players. It is a very friendly MTG community, willing to help you, and easy to break the ice. Also, they have tournaments every week and prices are very good. I buy most of my cards here, as well as other MTG supplies. I recommend this store to anyone looking to play magic and make friends, particularly if you just recently moved to Norman. I'm not a native English speaker and I can say people were super nice with me even though at the beginning there was a language barrier. 5-star! 100%...
