When I was taking my class, History of Western Theatre, and doing a survey of playhouses in Charleston, I focused on South of Broadway. They made themselves available to me to answer my questions about their history through the course of several emails. Kristin was great. They put on family shows, but also do serious drama and they do it just was well as you would expect a barely off Broadway artsy production to do. They are North Charleston's best kept secret. I always tell everyone I know who migrates through Park Circle to visit SOBT. I have been to many of Charleston's theatres. Charleston has a richer and more vast ecosystem of theatre than is typically known. However, SOBT is my favorite place to visit. Go see them for a family show or for a heady dramatic play. The singing was amazing, and the dancing was masterfully choreographed.
