Opening night tonight here at King BBQ! I have to say that overall the experience was positive! The atmosphere is very friendly and all the staff is kind and welcoming. Food flavors were pretty good! I would say that this place is a fusion between southern style BBQ and popular Chinese cuisine. We had the 5 Spice Duck Breast, the BBQ Pork Steak, the Chopped Pork Sandwich, Dan Dan Noodles, and the Chopped Sichuan Red Slaw. The duck was amazing- the flavor of the duck was so tasty and the scallion sauce on top was to die for. I wish they put more of the sauce and beware of the bones! Chew with caution. The BBQ pork steak was also delicious! They served the meats with a Carolina mustard sauce and some pickles giving it a southern BBQ twist with nice Chinese flavors. The Dan Dan noodle side dish was also tasty- I would have loved the addition of peanuts. The Chopped Pork Sandwich was also delicious and a good bang for your buck. The only thing I would say about the sandwich is that the bottom bun gets soggy quickly making it a sloppy sandwich to eat. Overall the meats were a bit pricy for the serving but still tasty nonetheless! The way this place is set up is similar to Lewis BBQ where you order first and get all of your utensils on the side and the food will be brought out to you. Didn’t have the chance to try the cocktails but from what I’ve seen, they look delicious. Overall I would give King BBQ a solid 7.5 out of 10 for flavor, vibes, and service. Price for some of the food items personally I feel doesn’t match up with the serving size but still tasty! Congrats to the King BBQ team on what seemed to be a wholesome opening night!...

Nestled at 2029 Carver Avenue, King BBQ brings a refreshingly creative twist to Chinese-American barbecue, and their Moo Shu Chopped Smoked Pork is an absolute standout. This dish perfectly embodies their “Chinatown BBQ meets Southern smoke” ethos .
🔥 Smoky, savory pork The chopped smoked pork arrives tender, juicy, and richly infused with delicate oak smoke—a testament to the pitmaster’s skill and the harmony between Southern-style smoking and classic char siu flavors .
🥢 Lively accompaniments Wrapped in steamed pancakes, the pork is paired with crisp pickled collards and a bold hoisin sauce. The tang of the collards cuts beautifully through the smoky richness, while the hoisin adds a sweet-savory depth—every bite is a perfectly balanced melody of textures and tastes .
✨ Symphonic balance The dish nails the art of contrast: warm and soft pancakes, smoky and meaty pork, tart pickles, and velvety hoisin. It’s a fusion feast that stays true to its roots yet feels entirely fresh and inventive—an impression echoed by Charleston tourism guides celebrating this creative mash-up .
🌟 A defining moment One bite—and you sense why King BBQ is celebrated as one of Bon Appétit’s best new spots of 2024 . The Moo Shu Chopped Smoked Pork stands out not just as a dish, but as a statement of what modern barbecue can be: bold, cultured, and utterly delicious.

Read moreThis place has been abuzz since it has opened so after months of waiting for the opportunity I finally gotten a chance. And if you like Jackrabbit Filly this place has the same modern asian mixed with the local vibe. As a barbeque restaurant it's very good, with their tangy spicy bok choy and the super savory collards. Over steamed rice these two alone are some of the best vegetable dishes I've ever had. My personal favorite were the collards. I got the Pork combo which came with a couple of spare ribs and pulled pork. The ruby red spare ribs had a little pull which reminds me of times I've been out in chinatown Frisco with their traditional BBQ rib fare. The pulled pork was so delicious, nothing like any pulled pork I've ever had in the south. It is uniquely in its own class. Not quite traditional SC mustard pulled pork, not quite the tang of east NC, not quite grilled moo shu pork, but a very specially blended and prepared meat dish. At that point I knew I must be back to try the other dishes. Like I mentioned earlier as a BBQ it's very good, but as a Chinese restaurant it's by far the best in town. Thanks to chef and owners for finally filling the gap...
