Hammond Civic Center — Attraction in North Township

Who ever was responsible for organizing the Orak Shrine Circus event did a terrible job. The event took place at 1:30pm today. I along with many other people purchased tickets online ahead of time. However we were not allowed into the event because they were “sold out”. We waited in line for 15min only to be told that even though we paid for our tickets to enter they were over capacity. When I inquired how they managed to sell more tickets than seats available they had no response. They also did not make an announcement to the line of people still waiting that they were wasting their time because they would not be allowed in. We were told that we could either come back for the 5pm performance or receive a refund online. However there is no way to get a refund online. So all of those people who could not make the second performance were cheated out of their money. There is no point in selling tickets online if entrance is not guaranteed. As a kid growing up in Hammond; During the 60's-70's? The Hammond Civic Center had tons of free activities that started at 9:00 in the morning until 8:00 at night. There were activities for both the young and old. During the summer on Saturday mornings? Me and at least 10 to 12 other neighborhood kids would get together and go swimming. Back then? Hammond had a Mayor and other City Officials who cared about the neighborhood. (Now?) There are no activities. No swimming pool. No place for seniors to congregate. I truely enjoy the civic center, I have been coming for almost 30 years and it sadness me to write anything bad about this great gym, I had 2 incidents with a female maintenance employee attacking and yelling at me at the pool, I'm 65 years old and utilize the pool area for therapy and seem to have issues with just this one employee. It's okay if you don't like someone but to respect someone in a public establishment should be handled differently. I wouldn't give bad reviews just because of one employee other then that I enjoy this place and recommend to...
