I wanted to like this place due to the reviews however my experience was not so great. I tried to call my order in & was left on hold for 10mins. The lady then picks up the phone not a hello or one moment. I just hear her talking to people in the background. So I continue to wait after several minutes. I then hang up & try to call back but now the phone line is busy & my calls weren’t going through. So I go into the restaurant to place my order, it’s very small inside. I ordered a CHICKEN taco dinner & a BEEF taco dinner both on hard shells. The lady told me the wait would be about 20mins. So I wait, finally get our food The order is wrong they gave me 2 of the same dinner. I’m not even sure what it was because the “chicken” was orange & it was sort of crumbly I was honestly scared to try it. So I tried the rice & beans, which were just ok but the food was nowhere near hot & there were no grilled onions as they promised come with every taco dinner, per their menu. I paid $23 & overall I was highly disappointed, dissatisfied & still hungry! A waste of money & I will never in life go back! I wouldn’t even recommend this place. I heard great things about another taco place around the corner across from the Hammond high school. I should’ve just went there to begin with !!!!! I hate wasting money on...

A Hidden Gem - My New Favorite Spot!

I recently had the pleasure of dining at La Zacatecana, and I can’t stop raving about it! This was my first time visiting, and I was blown away by the experience. The food was absolutely delicious, and the prices are incredibly reasonable—perfect for anyone looking for amazing flavor without breaking the bank.

I ordered the Birria dipping tacos with consommé, and wow, they were perfection! The Birria meat, made from goat, was tender, flavorful, and paired perfectly with the rich, savory consommé. Every bite was a burst of authentic Mexican flavor that left me wanting more.

What makes La Zacatecana even more special is its warm, inviting atmosphere. It seems to be family-owned, which adds a personal touch you rarely find these days. The staff was friendly, attentive, and made sure my experience was nothing short of excellent.

I’m thrilled to say this is now my new go-to spot. Whether you’re a fan of authentic Mexican cuisine or just looking for something new and exciting to try, La Zacatecana is a must-visit. Trust me, you’ll leave with a happy heart and a full stomach. Highly recommend—don’t sleep...

Delicious food, like, hands down, the best steak tacos in Hammond. It is exactly what you'd think of when "Hole in the wall" is mentioned. It's tiny, but there is treasure in this box. They have 3 tables. When I went, all tables were full of customers dining in. When I opened the door to go inside, the door had to press against the shoulder of a seated customer, so be mindful when opening the door. The woman who took my order was very nice. I didn't have to wait long after ordering to receive my food. The food was authentic and delicious! I really appreciated having the palate cleansers in my dinner box, which consisted of cucumber, lime and radish. Never had that come with a takeout taco dinner. If you can, I would suggest ordering ahead if you get anxious in small spaces, but by all means, GO THERE!...

GET: 12 tacos/gorditas for $20 deal (Cabeza/lengua/steak are particularly good) Horchata (house made) is also good. Get a variety of salsas. Takeout is recommended; it's a small space with quite a bit of traffic. Love the 12 tacos/gorditas for $20; it is an amazing deal, and comes with fresh veggies and blistered/onions. Cabeza/cecina (NOT the thin/air-dried kind)/lengua are available for extra $. Their food is consistently simple and fresh tasting. Not overly salty or heavily seasoned. Good salsas - about 3 kinds. A family run business with generous cashiers willing to give you samples and hard working folks who are proud of their food. Highly recommended.
